Ruger 22lr pistols Vs Buckmark

Looking at getting a 22lr pistol and have heard people going both ways on this. As a 1911 shooter the 22/45 series is looking the best to me so far. I'd like to hear the pros and cons from owners of each. Thanks in advance!

I've got a Mark II 22/45 and it has never let me down Thousands of rounds through it and it never jams. Great gun.

From my research, it's like comparing oranges and apples. I'm in the same boat you are in but I'm going to go with a buckmark. It feels better in "MY" hands and I heard that it's a little easier to clean.

but you really can't go wrong with either.

Buckmark. Simpler, easier take-down, better balanced, better trigger. And did I mentioned less expensive?

if you want a trainer for your 1911 just get a conversion kit the 22/45 really won't do it.

as far as buckmark vs ruger i would go ruger. easier to find spare parts,more aftermarket parts, cheaper mags. they are not hard to fieldstrip. just read the manual and do it a few times.

try to find an older MKII as the MKIII has more parts to clean/break with zero upside.

either way get an ultimate clip loader.

i would get whatever one is available at the time. I have a 22/45 with a red dot and it is really a joy to shoot. And yes, get "the ultimate clip loader". Best invention ever!

Where are you shopping? New Buckmarks I rarely see for under $300 while I see new 22/45s all the time for around $250.

New 22/45's run a lot more than that up here in Vacaville. $350 - $500, but then most of you know about my local shop

I have called around to several shops and the "cheapest" 22/45 I've found is $389. The buckmarks seem to be a little less on GBroker. Keep the opinions coming, very helpful.

Either way you go, get an Ultimate Cliploader as suggested above. It will work with either Ruger or Buckmark mags.

I went with a Ruger Mark III Hunter, and from what I read, I thought field stripping and cleaning would be a pita, but after one or two field strips, it's easy. Also, the option to use Volquartsen parts can make the gun trigger feel real nice. More info on the Mark III here.

I figure you can't go wrong with Ruger or Buckmark. See if you can try them out at your local gun range and go with the one you prefer.

Get a conversion kit. I really like the advantage arms kits since they lock back and are good quality for the price. Or do what I did, buy a rock island 1911 and make it a permanent 22lr.

Hmm. I got my MKIII 22/45 bb 5.5" for $255 (shipped and brand new) from Bud's in Kentucky in April. Add the $45 for the DROS and transfer fee my FFL charged me, it was $300 flat. No tax since it was bought out of state.

Bud's has a couple in stock right now for around $300.

The AA kits are nice and all, but for about $300, you might as well get a whole gun IMO. Plus, the AA kits can be picky about ammo while the Ruger (and I assume the Browning) will shoot whatever you throw at it.

Get both! Then you won't kick yourself for making the wrong decission.
