So I purchased a Marlin 795 today...

As soon as the DROS is over, and shipping, due to the holiday, I should be able to pick it up sometime between the 12th and the 14th.

I've been buying up ammo in anticipation to purchasing a .22 rifle, and ended up with the Marlin over a Ruger 10/22 due to the fact of the Marlin shooting better out of the box, and not being tempted to 'upgrade' the rifle so soon.

I only have CCI Minimags, since everywhere I read, these shoot the best for 'cheap' ammunition.

Out the door it was $204.xx...rifle itself was 139.99. I have been searching around, figured it was the best price around, Big5 has them for 179.99. Is the Marlin $20 rebate still going on? That'd be nice to pick up more ammo with


I want to put a scope (don't know what scope would be best...suggestions?) and a bi-pod for fun...


I noticed the only aftermarket stock I could find would be the Dragunov style, are there any others?

Plans are to start shooting at the range/BLM (if I can figure out where) and progress from 25-100yd+ and eventually move up to bigger rifles...only thing is, .22 is cheap, everything else is not cost effective to me.

Hopefully I don't find out I've been convicted of a felony haha

A cheap 3x-9x is fine for 22 rifles. Walmart has the Simmons "Blazer" for around $28. I've got one on one of my 22's and it works just fine.

the 795 is a great rifle...I was lucky enough that it will shoot just about everything i feed it and is most accurate with federal bulk packs

A Marlin 70pss (takedown version of the 795) was the first firearm I ever bought. It's easily got 3000 rounds through it and never has given me any problems. It's a great gun that will last a long time.

The receiver is a bit of a PITA to clean though, get a dental pick to get into the sharp corners.

Autolife Sporting goods in Modesto. I THINK they are having a sale on all their guns. Most of them are not in stock, the lady who helped me, said that since people are so picky (lol) that the ones on the racks are the ones no one wants.

That was sarcasm, not attitude from her too. It was a pretty chill sale, the girl was helpful, the guy who had me fill out the paperwork wasn't like most people who run gun stores and think they have some special power with a gun on their hip. He even laughed when I made a crack about California, after he said it might take a few extra days (to ship the rifle from the warehouse) because of the holiday and that it wasn't so easy to ship a firearm anymore.

Congrats on the 795. Its a great gun that has been fun, reliable and cheap to shoot which is hard to say for my other guns nowadays!

I've only bought a couple of extra mags and plenty of CCI Minimags and mine has been happy but I am seriously considering the Tech sights....

Clean and lube that Marlin first

Yeah, I picked up my Marlin 795 in April at Big 5. I do believe that Marlin has that $20 rebate going on thru the end of the year. And the proof of purchase sticker you need may be on the plastic bag the rifle was packed in, and not on the box.

Just make sure to clean and lube your 795 prior to shooting. I didn't and I was experiencing misfires and failure to feeds like crazy. Since I did that, it's 100% reliable and very accurate.

You'll enjoy it.

I bought the Bushnell 3-9x rimfire scope for mine for $37 or so. it comes with the rings so all you need to do is slide the scope on the grooved receiver and screw it tight.
