    Can't decide Ruger 10/22 or GSG5

I need a rimfire rifle for the range because shooting 223 / 5.56 out of my AR's is getting expensive.

I'm not sure whether to build up a semi target oriented Ruger 10/22 (basically new barrel and Stock)

    or get a GSG5

I'm thinking to just get a Ruger and add a scope but the GSG 5 is tempting as well.

    Any suggestions?

if you want something just for plinking, the GSG 5 does well for that.

You answered your own question. Get the 10/22. Think of what you can buy with all the money you save over the GSG. Another 10/22! Plus the GSG is hardly a "semi-target" gun.

i would go with the 10/22 b/c of the fact that it is proven. replacement/aftermarket parts are abundant and cheap.

or if you can wait.... those new Colt/Uramex and S&W .22lr M4 clones may be another choice? allows you to switch parts over and you are already muscle trained.

I can not stand inaccurate firearms so it would have to be a 10/22 with a decent barell and nice glass. I got the 10/22T and put a Bushnell Elite 3x9 on it. sub moa at 100 yds with good ammo.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

              10/22

10/22 has so many aftermarket products you can get for it...you can make it
whatever you want. I had an old one I bought in the early 80's. Recently I put a Hogue stock on it and a tactical barrel I got at the OC gun show. You wouldnot believe how accurate and how QUIET it is.
The 10/22 will serve you well for years to come...hands down

If you like shooting your AR, just get yourself a conversion kit..
                If not, I'd say GSG5..

My GSG5 is much more accurate and precise than I expected it to be. I really enjoy shooting it and can shoot one ragged hole 10 shot groups at 50 ft with it. But, that's not what I got it for. It's a fun gun. I would never recommend a GSG5 to anyone who doesn't already have a 10-22! 10-22s are a cheaper initial investment, much more reliable, easy to find parts for, much more durable and have an abundance of after market accessories available for them. A Ruger will last you for forever, a GSG will probably only last 20K-50K rounds.

You will never regret buying a 10/22. I bought mine 20 years ago and shot thousands of rounds in it before replacing the factory barrel with a carbon fiber Volquartsen. Any time I take a new shooter to the range my 10/22 is the first one out of the safe, it's fun to shoot and accuracy with wolf match or federal gold medal is fantastic.

I don't know why everyone craps on the GSG's accuracy, then again a lot of people like to crap on it in general. Mine is very accurate, eats any kind of .22lr or .22hv that I put through it and on top of that it is simply tons of fun to shoot.

I also have a stock 10/22 and I get about the same results accuracy wise as my GSG-5. When it comes to ammo however I either have to put CCI minimags down it or Remington golden bullets, with everything else it's a jam o' matic.

That being said if you wanted to turn your 10/22 into a tack driver you could, you could also tacticool it out. But if you went either of those routes it would end up costing the same as a GSG.

If plinking is what you want to do then hands down get the GSG.

10/22, available everywhere and cheap to start. Plus the sky's the limit on looks, use, etc.

                            10/22 is the most versatile!

Ok guys, if I got th3 10/22, I would end up replacing the barrel and stock with a hogue (like someone earlier mentioned) so the cost would be about the same as the GSG5. I also thought of just picking up the conversion for one of my AR's but I know I would end up building another complete rifle if I went that route. I love the AR but want something different.

The nice thing about the 10/22 is it is cheap to pickup now and I could change the barrel and stock later as money comes in. But the GSG5 looks so fun to shoot. Would there decent accuracy with it with a scope though?
