Yes, Model 41 is on the Olympic exemption list and Ok to buy in Cal.

Maybe look for a nice used S&W M&P22 CA. Mine has been very reliable and even digests auto-match, which I consider to be the gold standard in low powered junk ammo.

Its a great shooter and right price point.
I have been gone from CA for many years now..But if you bought a GSG 1911 22 upper..Can you still legally put it on your existing 1911 Lower?

          - There is a whole thread on these annual renewals. Buy now (before Jan 1), or wait until about the 3rd week of January. Many manufacturers haven't had their checks processed yet.

I own a Ruger stainless MK ii and it is a dependable tack driver. Recently I was also able to obtain a Ruger Mkii with a 10" barrel. It is more accurate than my abilities.

Bought a P22 over a year ago, and it has been a very reliable shooter until recently. Failure to feed has become a problem, usually with a full mag. Mods are ejector and captured spring. Thoroughly cleaned both gun and mags. This seemed to start suddenly, until now it has taken about any ammo I put through it including all the "wrong" ammo as long as it was high vel.

Any clues as to what may have happened or broken? Thanks.

Upper is not serialized, so any upper can be purchased without paperwork including from out of state or even ebay.

Update on my P22 issue above. Called factory, talked with a tech, he sent email with Fedex code for return of firearm to factory. Got it back today, they replaced the barrel. Not sure why that was solution, maybe a feed ramp issue? Anyway, a week door to door to door, I'll see how it works and report. They also replaced my captured spring with factory spring, but included the captured one in the box. Hope it is back to being a happy plinker.
