In my opinion, Thunderbolts are among the worst if not the worst .22LR rounds one can use.

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

I used to shoot Thunderbolts (along with almost every other brand as well) many years ago. Shot them in three different 22 rifles (old 10-22, Nylon 66 and Belgium Browning 22 Auto take-down)---didn't particularly find them inferior to most other cheap 22 ammo... In fact, during the last major ammo shortage, I was going thru my 22 ammo inventory, and found a brick of Thunderbolts (don't know how old) and as I had been asked by my nephew to take him and a couple of girls out shooting, shot them thru the same old Nylon 66 and 10-22---worked 100%---dirty?, yeah, but all 22 LRs are dirty... Didn't take out the Browning as it is bottom eject and it likes to send an occasional hot spent casing down the front of females clothing (!)---this creates all sorts of drama and often results in that girl never wanting to shoot guns again...Comment

I've never really had any bad 22 LR ammo. Some might be a little better and some a little dirty but they always work in my 22 semi autos, revolvers, bolt and lever actions. It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Pretty much this. Don't remember shooting any ThunderBolts tho. Just can't recall. Lots of .22lr in my lifetime. Lots.

All the 22LR ammo I bought was before the pandemic, most of them I bought on sale 3-5 cents per round. I bought all brands, all types, all grains, I never have problem with any of them except one, it was a Remington Golden Bullet, the one they sale 1400 or 1500 rds on a big white plastic jar (can) not in a box nor brick. The failures rate is around 10%-15%, but the funny thing is: One of my friend bought the same ammo a year later from a difference vender and he claimed it shoot OK. One more thing, some people bashed the 500 rds green box Thunderbolt, but it shoot OK on my guns, semi and rifles. What is happen ? beat me !Comment

I got a bucket of bullets - Golden Bullet - 1400 last year and they have run just fine in all my 22s. Was actually surprised how well they worked, and in the accuracy seems ok too.All the 22LR ammo I bought was before the pandemic, most of them I bought on sale 3-5 cents per round. I've never been able to recall having issues with Golden Bullets or Thunderbolts - the only time I remember cursing a box of ammo was a bulk box of Federal high velocity hollow points - something around 36 gr. Think I just left the partial box on a bench out in Oroville for someone else to give a try.Originally posted by ysr_racerPlease don't bring logic and reason into an interwebs discussion

Yep. They originally sold for $90 (5000 rounds) in water-proof, sealed packages. Great for long-term storage.
Worked great for me and have 'some' left.
It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased.
You and no one alive can buy it for any price. It is impossible to rent and cannot be lent.
You alone and our own have earned it with...Your sweat, blood and lives. You own it forever.

I had the same problem with some federal blue box. I think I even started a thread here about it.I've never been able to recall having issues with Golden Bullets or Thunderbolts - the only time I remember cursing a box of ammo was a bulk box of Federal high velocity hollow points - something around 36 gr.
