    Thunderbolts

I stopped by my LGS late last week, and I was surprised they actually had some ammo in stock. Among other things they had a ton of Thunderbolts at $39/500 box. Not great, but, you know. So I bought a couple. I've never shot them in the past, because I've always thought they were junk. But, my preferred .22 lr format is revolvers, and they can shoot anything.

So I went out on Saturday after work with my lcrx 22 lr, and a box of those Thunderbolts. They all went bang, and were decent enough for plinking. In an age of tactical semi automatic everything, I still like revolvers. They eat anything, and I'm more accurate with them. Just thought I'd share.

Those were a Remington product, right? I wonder if they are old stock or maybe among the first of the new Remington ammo coming out after Federal restarted the Remington ammo production?

Yep, they're remington. They looked to be brand new, not some stuff found in the back of a warehouse. So, it's probably the first stuff they are cranking out after starting back up.

I believe that Thunderbolts are what Remington sold to the Govt and CMP then resold. Good solid point rounds that have always delivered for me.

I posted recently somewhere around here that when I just went through my rimfire stash I found a box of 500-count Rem Thunderbolt. I took 100 with me (along with 100's more CCI and Federal) to test.

I ran 50 of the Thunderbolt through two BX-25 mags in my 1981 Ruger 10-22 in which I have installed a BX-25 trigger. Great fun. The Tbolt shot just as well as anything else and to the same POI, and there were no duds or squibs.

Thunderbolts feed very reliably in my early model Walther P22 so i like them for that.

I've never had any problem with them in my Walther/Umarex MP5-22. They are a bit dirty compared to CCIs however, but no big deal for me since I always clean after every range visit.

Have you cleaned the gun yet?
I found them to be dirty rounds.

I do not recall any problems shooting them, but I stocked up on minimags a while back.

That is the nice thing about revolvers, pump-actions, lever action, top break single shot and of course bolt action guns.

Even if the ammunition is crappy it's not going to give you cycling issues.

And most of those types of actions can run when dirtier/fouled than semi automatics as well.

There's a whole lot of folks that say real bad things about them. I've shot many thousands of them through many different 22s, and keep on buying them because they work perfectly fine, in semi auto pistol and rifle, and wheelgun, and single shot.

I had them blow out the extractor in a fairly new Rem 597. Watching my son shoot them out of his 10/22, there is a lot of flash out of the action as the bolt cycles. That, and they are dirty. In a revolver, they work just fine. They are the cheaper Remington ammo. My son has gotten burning powder in his face from his 10/22 and refuses to shoot them. I still have a partial 500 round box left. Thankfully, I have a ton of other .22 ammo on hand. I will eventually shoot them up in an H&R Sportsman top break.

Yep, cleaned it when I got home. It was maybe a bit dirtier than CCI, but, not enough to cause me an issue.

Back when I was a kid..I found it kinda funny that Thunderduds was the most aggravating crap I ever tried in my Remington Nylon 66..It did not work in their own Rifle..By the way it was not the Rifles fault..They did a great job on those..Just not the ammo..

They won't run in my Marlin 60/600.

That was always my opinion on the as well, they were pretty junky. But, they were just fine out of my little revolver, and worked just fine for plinking.
