Oldies .. Colt and High standard ...22's

Just got these out of jail... got both from a fellow Cal-Gunner (thanks)
Colt Challenger...1952 or 53 (working on it) no org. mag ...bummer
High Standard model B US , I've seen charts that say 1932-34 build dates , and may have gone into service in 1943 (?) marked "Property of US" SN#108322.
I understand they made the B into the 40's (?)

tracing the info on these is a challenge...but fun..... now to break out some std velocity 22lr ... and a few tin cans.... fun
anyone have info on the HS...trying to find out who it went to ..Army...Navy...Marines.. ???

Re the Colt - I'm supposing Triple K makes mags but with a bit of skill you can make magazines from the Beretta NEOS. The basic steps are …

Fully disassemble the NEOS magazine. Then remove the hump on the top of the NEOS plastic follower. Then dress down the loading button on the side so that it makes it into the Colt grip. I usually chuck it stem first in a hand drill, spin against a hand file. Comes out nice & even, drill does all the work.

Final step is the baseplate. I buy Colt Woodsman baseplates from Numrich for about $10.00 each. What works just as well and is free is removing plastic from the rear of the NEOS baseplate down to just about even with the bottom of the magazine metal. Doesn't look quite as nice but works just as well.

BTW, this works for Browning Nomad and Medalist as well. And the NEOS mags are slick as heck.

^^^ Very good info , I like would love to see a NEOS mag all done for a reference.... I have heard good/bad about triple K magazines.... kind of don't want to pay the outrages price for a REAL Colt magazine that may/may not work well because of age ...

            Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

My fathers good friend was a flying Tiger. He brought back a Hi-Standard .22lr from Germany on his way home. I managed to obtain it about 30 years ago. The barrel is factory magnaported, right hand thumb rest , appears to be one of their top models in its time. I hope this helps?

                  Hello,

                  Good work on the .22s!

I know nothing on the Challenger.

On the High Standard Model B- I know a bit, but Rimfirecentral dot com has a forum for High Standards.

You are right- the model B could be from 1934-1950.

IF it was before Sept 1939, it had two levers on the left side of the frame and a rod sticking out the back of the slide.

IF it was after that date, it had the safety on the left side of frame and the takedown lever on the right side of frame- with a takedown 'nub' sticking up from center of slide.

Trackerdan, from what you are describing, I am thinking you have a High Standard Supermatic S-101, with 6 3/4 [or 7/8?' barrel that had two 'ports' at the muzzle end, and a slot under the barrel to allow for weights to be added [or a filler strip if no weights in use].

I have a Supermatic S-101, and it is the only one I know that had a factory ported barrel. These were made 1955/6-57/58, I think, and replaced by Supermatic 102 series.

The 102, 103, 104, 106 series had a muzzle brake that could be added to the barrel, and was held on by two bolts on the sides/ at angles.
Where did all the range-time go?
