    10/22 Tech-Sight with Red dot?

Has anyone done this? I have a sight base that screws into the four holes in the receiver of my 10/22. I want to get a tech-sight 10/22 going, but that takes the rear two mounting holes... Do you think it would be sturdy enough for me to cut the base in half and mount the front half to the receiver? I am thinking the two screw holes are so close that they are at a bad leverage to hold things steady. Maybe I could have a smith drill and tap another hole for me?

What do you guys think? ANyone know a smith who will drill and tap a hole in the 10/22 receiver?

If I understand correclty, you want the Tech-Site AND a rail to mount optics?

If so, then you will need more holes for the rail. The screws that are there are pretty small to start with and I think you're right that they will not hold well at all.

BTW, it isn't hard to drill and tap your own holes in the receiver. If you don't feel comfortable, get a friend who has done this sort of thing before. All you need is the right size drill bit and the right tap and be careful doing it.

I am thinking it needs a third hole at least, but I want to have four total. I am not confident that I wont bug up the receiver so I am fine with paying someone to drill and tap it. I have experience but not enough.

But yes, it is the tech sight and rail mounted optics that I want

Planning on co-witnessing? Awesome, I'd love to see the result since I was thinking about the same thing with my tech-sighted 795.. thinking, not actually wanting to do it.

I don't think it co witness' but it probably would if he used a lower mount. He just used the factory Ruger base and then cut it down to fit with the Tech Sights

Very cool setup, the tech-sights seem to be lightyears away from co-witnessing but they could serve as buis if you have some quick detachment method for the scope mount! I'm basing this off of the pictures that Rob just provided, who knows what results OPs setup will yield!

before he got that mount he had a red dot mounted very low on the receiver and they did co witness

How does that base hold zero? i just put my base on with only the two front screws, it was wiggly even when tight... Maybe I have a crappy base?? Anyways this is exactly the set up I want. I just think I want to have a more solid base.

I think he said he ended up drilling in another hole or two, just for stability.

Alright. Cool. Cool to see what it'll look like once I am done. I can't wait to be able to practice with peep sights on a 22

I love the tech sights on mine, I mentioned somewhere else, 5 shots 1" and under at 25m. Stock rifle, bulk federal ammo, it's a great improvement over the factory sights.

I don't think much of any optic will co-witness with standard height 10/22 sights - they're just too close to the bore.

You could raise the irons up, which would require raising the front sights as well, but the most common fix is to use a see-through mount or rings so you can use either sight.

You could put a thin strip of 3M VHB double sided tape under the rail and tighten it down.
