    Star Model F

Bought this old 1954 made Star F yesterday..Should be here mid week or so..Kinda excited..I have never had a engraved Firearm of any kind before..

I do not know alot about them..But I do have a couple Llama Spanish 1911 Mini 22s from the same era..Love those, very well built little pistols.

The price on this was pretty dang good so I had to buy it..Grips are not original..But I have correct repro set in Ivory color coming in the mail..Similar to the ones in the last photo.

If anyone has a F, tell me what you think about them, likes, dislikes..I think I am going to like it..Came with both the original mags.

No rimfires but I have 2 Star Super SMs in .380. Nice handy little "mini 1911" design, though no grip safety. Small and flat, easy to conceal and have been totally reliable.

Mad pimpish. Looks like it belongs in a Segovian whorehouse.

LOL..You never know it could have been there..

I think the engraving is done in a very nice manner., not overdone for sure. Not gawdy like some..Reminiscent of old American Pistol/Rifle engraving of the past. Style looks alot like what was done on 1911s in the past.. No naked ladies or anything..Sorry to disappoint you Jarhead.

Thanks...I think it is too..Jarhead, not so much I am thinking

That sucker’s bad alright. Just don’t dry fire it. A lot of Stars will break the firing pin. I know Bs do but not sure about Modelo Fs.

Yeah dry firing should be avoided in any .22..Firing pins are not a problem for me at all though, actually no Firearms part is....I will likely turn out a spare or two on the lathe and harden them, just for a past time..The few times I shoot this..I could put a CB in the mag first round..Then it would not fully cycle and dry fire on the last round.. Easy enough if it came to being that careful.

I will not shoot this all that much..This is more a collectible/Investment than a shooter anyway, it is already worth three times what I paid..Like everything, some may like it, some may not..It is a part of History..That is how it was made, for whatever reason.

.You would not believe what these sell for right now in the engraved state..I paid a small fraction of what they sell for..One recently sold with 34 bids at over 1300.00..Mine I think is nicer than that one was.Simpsons sold one at over 1100.00 recently. So someone besides me likes em.

I just like collecting Spanish Pistols among others..They are really underrated for their quality from I have seen so far..

I have many, many other 22 Pistols to shoot..

Thanks Vino and Calif for your input. Jarhead, well, I will leave it that.. You must be a barrel of fun to hang around.

That is a nice looking Star!

I had a mediocre Model F that I had reblued. It is a reliable plinker. A lot of fun!

I am sure they can be very accurate- but mine is no better than a plinker in my hands- rear sight is too small for anything better for my eyes.

Now- I also like spanish pistols. Model B, Model S Super and Model F.

I also have a spanish SxS 12g that is similarly 'pimped out'- and I like it as well.
Where did all the range-time go?

I bought a Star S-1 .32acp from aghauler before he escaped Calif. NIB with all the original paperwork from 1954. Fits like a glove, but now I want the twin in .380. Classic Pimp Gun, Nickle with Pearl grips!

I bought a Star Model F many years ago as a gift for my father. It was blued with a 4” barrel and imparted by Garcia reel company. I haven’t shot in in 25 years or more but as I remember it was well made and a decent shooter.

                      Thanks Trap

I am like a little kid at Christmas, had to take it right away when it arrived today.... I am very impressed with the function and accuracy..I fired 3 mags through it.

I shot CCI Standard Velocity plain lead, CCI Mini Mag Hollow Point, and CCI Blazer plain lead..All functioned beautifully. I will try some of my cheaper brands I have here to like Federal, Remington..But I confident it will eat those up also.

I am also very impressed with the build quality of the little Pistol..

Nice! I don't have safe queens, I buy em to shoot em! But I did have second thoughts just before I squeezed the trigger for the first time.
I know the Llama .22 was notorious for breaking firing pins, but don't recall that being a problem with the Star. If you have the means, I would make a copy of it just the same. It's not like parts are easy to find anymore.

I am going to turn a couple pins on the Lathe from Air hard steel..One of my little Mini 1911 Llama XV .22s had a broken firing pin when bought it..I made a couple spares for it too.

I have read these Model Fs can suffer from that ill also..Only real bad thing I have been able to find about them though.

I do have one thing that I do not like..It has no last shot hold open capability as mentioned earlier..That could surely lead to broken pins real easy..

Other than that I really like it alot..Tomorrow I will share a little story about the History of this as told by the former owner..It is pretty crazy...

Here iss the story the guy told me on the Pistol..I ran a 22 short in the mag and it will feed and fire..

                            "Funny story about that gun:

So i bought the Star pistol from an estate. The son told me the Dad used it At local High School track meets where he was a referee.

He said he used it exclusively for the races and shot blanks out of it to start each race.

He handed me a handful of blanks he used up until 5 or so years ago.....

The bastard wasn’t using blanks. The “blanks” were .22 hollow points!!! He was starting each race shooting the live rounds in the air. *♂️"

Now there's a referee that means what he says, when he calls a time out!
