    Might be nice for an indoor range?

    Now I'm curious. In days gone by, my Dad shot on the San Juan High School rifle team. One of the places they practiced and competed was the indoor range at El Camino HS(Sacramento area high schools) back in 1957-1960.

    He used a Mossberg 22 bolt action to dispatch rats and skunks around my Grandfathers commercial chicken ranch. The detachable magazine had a little adapter that slid in the magazine to adapt it for 22 short.

      For years I've used 10/22 short mags sold by Volquartsen. They work great, but you have to manually cycle the bolt unless you want to mess with springs.

          Volquartsen had some sort of 22 Short kit.

            got mine today, tried different ammo (aquila super extra 29g, CCI Target 29g);
            cartridges did not cycle/extract, kind of disappointed. Will try w/ another 10/22
            and report back. The PVC mod may be the way to go to save $29.99 on this one.

            edit: will also try tightening spring on mag

                This would also make my Ruger American Rimfire more versatile since it also uses 10/22 magazines. Now if only I could find some 22 short ammo at a reasonable price

                  I think it would be great in a bolt-action rifle

                    What's a reasonable price? I've always seen it priced more than 22lr.

                      We shot .22 shorts out of bolt action target rifles in our cafeteria in 7th and 8th grade. California Cadet Corps 1976 & 1977. You had to pass the Hunter Safety Test before you could shoot. The teacher was the instructor for the test. I did this at NAS Lemoore. I tell people my childhood was rough. There was shooting at school at least 3 days a week.

                          You can buy CCI cb long with the same specs as the cb short. Then you wont need the special magazine. I have shot both and they are horribly inaccurate.

                            There is dedicated 22 Short only firearms I collect both but dropped most the rifle ones due to storage concerns. I had like 5 rifles and I still have quite a few handguns.

                            Like NAA Mini Revolver, Astra Cub, Beretta Minx 950BS, Colt Civil War Commemorative single shot, Colt Derringer.

                              I was surprised to find a box of Western Super X .22 short in my safe today. Don't know quite why unless it was for some High Standard pistols I used to have. These are 29 grain, lubaloy coated bullet special dry wax lubricant. I have no idea how old they are, yellow box. Box does have a warning on top "Warning Keep out of reach of children".
                              How would those work in the 10/22 with the mags on ebay I wonder.

                                Bought one of these beginning of the year and it works great in my 10/22 and River American.
