I wound up buying a Ruger American Rimfire simply because that is what I could find. I did manage to score 250 rounds of .22 magnum at about $15/50, too.

Now I just need to go shoot some stuff.

Great choice OP. Yeah, find some time to shoot it.

If you want to shoot non-lead, I've had the best luck with Winchester and cci. Shoots almost as well as their leaded counter parts at almost the same price.

                    AMT .22 automag!

My friend bought one new in the mid-80's. He took it to an indoor range and it would intermittently go full-auto (no, he hadn't messed with it at all). Sent it back to AMT and they gave him a new one. The flame that comes out the muzzle is just so cool.

That should be a good combo, post up some pics when you get it mounted and ready to shoot.

I have a couple of the AMT II pistols - 6" barrel and a 3" barrel, they're a lot of fun. When they work. An H&R 649 dual cylinder and a Colt SA.

A few years back Magnum Research made a 17 HMR semi rifle that had a habit of blowing up cases and magazines. Bought one for about $150.00 with the admonition "if you kill yourself with this gun it's not our fault" and I almost did, firing it just a few times until the case split and mag blasted apart. Sent the gun to Kahr and they replaced the barrel with a 22 WMR. Works great.

                            I'd like to grab an H&R 700.

There is a used HK 300 with some sort of scope and mount for sale at Coyote Valley Sporting Clays in Morgan Hill. I think the price was 2200, rifle looked to be in nice shape but I didn’t look at the bore. I have no connection to this rifle.
