      3-9 power, 32-40mm objective.

I put a Cabelas 3-9x40 rimfire scope on my CZ 427. I have the same scope on a Savage Mkii

Do not go 3-9. You want 4-14 at least. That round is a laser and extremely accurate at distance. You’re selling it short shooting it under magnified.

Be careful not to overmagnify also.

This is the list of scopes used for 1 mile PRS shooting in 2018. Notice the max magnification.

There are a lot of 25x scopes being used at 1 mile. 25x is only twice as much as 12x. A 12x scope at 100 yards will have a single paper target fill the image. You won’t be able to verify you are shooting the correct target if you have a line of identical targets lined up without zooming out or moving the rifle off target to find the lane number. I find much more then 4x-6x does not help accuracy at less then 100 yards.

Throwing more magnification at it reduces optical clarity per dollar, meaning it costs more money for the same clarity. Clarity gets you hits. Magnification without clarity just makes it blurry. Given a fixed budget, I’d much rather spend my money on clarity vs magnification.

Just clarify, I easily hit head shots on a paper squirrel target at 100yds with the 3-9x40

I use a cheapo Vortex Diamondback 4-16 on my .17 Hornet. Works great on ground squirrels, but is a little overkill for anything bigger.

I have a Vortex Crossfire II 4x18x44 on one of my 17's and run it on 12 power most days. I do like 6x for watching the splat and flying critters though.

I have a BSA sweet 17 on another and it is a decent scope but the eye relief is short.

I use a Bushnell 4x12x40 on both my Savage mk2 and 93r17 for culling the varmint Cong around my place. Most of those shots are 80 to 100 yds.

I rarely take the zoom to 12 tho. I like a wide field of view.

Good choice. .17 only ammo consistently in stock at the LGSs.

I bought the .17 because ammo was easy to find.

I'm using a SWFA SS 2.5-10x32 ultralight. It replaced a Sightron stac 3-16x42. I like the stac with it's 30mm tube, nice glass, parallax adjustment, and target turrets, but it was too much for the CZ455 varmint that it was mounted on.

The swfa gives a good range of magnification in a small light weight package. It's a nice simple Japanese scope that's perfect for the cz. As a bonus switching to it lightened the rifle by almost a pound.

I like it so much I'm thinking about getting another one for the .223 MPV.

BTW the stac found it's home on the 6.5 Grendel. It works well for that rifle and cartridge.

I have a Weaver 4X16 on my CZ 17 HMR and a Vortex 3X18 Strike Eagle on another 17 HMR. I think the Vortex is overkill to be honest, but it was on sale.

Forgot to mention....My 17 hmr's are squirrel guns.
