I've seen these here in Texas as well as the PRK. They look like good little guns and a great way for Californians to practice, both from a $$$ standpoint and also from a drop-free standpoint. While they are very similar to an actual AR, there are differences and they don't seem to be nearly as heavily built (think very high quality airsoft). I'm thinking about getting one, but since I already have an extra lower and collapsable stock hanging around, I'm probably going to go with a CMMG upper for about the same price.

I got a chance to look one over the other day. Nice construction, many plastic parts, but not all. Quality looks to be good. My 2 comments right from the get go are:
1. Not a fan of the safety.
2. Collapsable stock felt a bit flimsy.
Other then that, it looks like a well built piece.

Colt claims these to be "all metal." I'm assuming they meant all action parts, barrel, etc. The only plastic parts I can tell are the same as you would find on the real M4, the handguard covers, the grip, and the collapsible stock.

We just received a few from our distributor and so far, they look and feel pretty much like the real Colt M4. The exterior appears to be aluminum alloy throughout and potentially durable enough for serious training.

If it shoots half as good as it looks and feels, I believe this will be a big winner in the training circles, by saving lots of $ on ammo costs.

If anyone wants to try one out, I'll be demo'ing at the Metcalf range in South San Jose later today and all of next week.

We ordered several more within ten minutes of receiving the first shipment.

I was just enlightened that this rifle is actually banned in california since it sports the "Colt" wording and is under category 2 "AR-15" according to the ca doj. I called Ade's up and one of the employees mentioned that they can't receive them due this fact also. What he suggested as an alternative, is the SW .22 coming out since that isn't affected. Careful what you buy guys...

doubtful. LEO rarely use the term 'clip' when they mean 'mag'.

Would you care is enlighten us on exactly how you were enlightened? Who told you?

Because for an AR or AK to be banned it has to be specifically banned by Make & Model... not just by make (IE Colt). I highly doubt the .22LR M4 Colt AR lookalike is specifically on the banned list made nearly a decade before the rifle was first produced.

I agree that the rifle is probably perfectly legal, but customs would be a check on the US border and wouldn't be an enforcement of California state firearms laws. It is entirely possible for local gun stores to be unknowingly selling a banned firearm, only to have the customers later get in trouble for it.

That said, I still don't see how this rifle can be already banned by Make & Model when the list of banned AR's is almost a decade older than the rifle itself.

Unfortunately the opinion of the gunshop as to the ultimate legality of this rifle is irrelevant. Some of the best sounding complete FUD I have ever heard has come across the counter of a gunshop... that even advertises on this site. Don't you have another gunshop within driving distance?

The DOJ saying "the same thing" is troubling though. I'm curious what you actually asked the DOJ? Did you say, "Hey they have a Colt AR-15 here in .22LR, is that legal?" Cause if that is what you said, then you F'd up your question. And just cause a rifle says "Colt" on it doesn't make it a banned assault weapon.

Plenty of LEOs use the term "clip."

And for the rest of you, this is not an AW, not even close, not a snowball's chance in hell. It's nothing more vicious than a 10/22.
