Yep, he will. It is a question that answers itself. Ammo wont fire = light hammer strikes. You need a harder strike, and in this case that means tighten the dang screw.

If the screw isn't bottomed (sounds like it's not), turn it all the way in counting the amount of rotation/number of turns. Then back it out 1/4 turn less, and give it a try. In the past I've made a shim that matches the clearance under the screw head, and kept the screw tightened down on that.

You could also rig a way to measure hammer weight as it releases, and increase that 1/4 lb at a time until you get reliable ignition. Similar to how Federal primers take approx 1/4 lb less there than Winchester.
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

Eeep. Sounds like a revolver problem!

Stuff runs fine in my AR.22 and my Ruger Mk.III.

He's on the right path though. Longer FP is one way to reliable ignition and that's been done.

Aguila has been reliable on par with CCI in all my .22s but they all have stock springs. I have zero idea if Aguila is any more or less sensitive than other ammos.

If I went lighter on springs I would also go with a longer FP. Definitely would avould dry firing though.

My gunsmith, the guy that helped develop the 8-shot 627, and did the trigger job on my 617, including springs, stoning, and longer firing pin, but left the strain screw long for final adjustment, did it wrong?

            I'll let him know.
With your gunsmiths credentials it seems to me he feels confident in using other methods than what Smith And Wesson recomends.
For what ever reason you had the him service the revolver he should have returned it 100% reliable.

My 617 has been left alone on the strain screw side and it is reliable with all 22lr ammo I have in my stash, I did change the trigger return spring for lighter double action pull, it helped quite a bit, if that was your goal maybe try that, at least in my 617 it did not compromise the ignition ability and it lightened the double action pull.

I was guilty of trying your gunsmith methods on my 929, became unreliable, then is where i learned from S&W the procedure I described.
Once you get it to fire correctly it is super fun to shoot and very accurate, Have Fun!

OP did write that he was having the same problem in his 1022 and that somehow got lost in the revolver discussion/fixation. Forrest for the trees people.

OP should test the ammo in another 22 and report back. Diagnostic differential required.

Trade some of those primers or 9mm you got for some decent ammo.

After reading 50% failure I did not fixate on ammo , I have never heard of such a high number of failures no matter how crappy the ammo was.
I did Read the part on the 1022, but I remember another post by OP stating he also did some work on it , "Brimstone" if I recall correctly.

I do not have a 1022, but have seen their trigger group, OEM is very stout, I based my opinion on my experience with my revolver and learned that sometimes the factory settings are there because they work.
                    just my two cents.

But longer FP on a rimfire? I guess you could but might eliminate the ability to dry fire by doing that. Much longer and you are going to be peening the chamber seat. I get longer FP on a centerfire, I did not know it was a thing on rimfire. I don't know much about rimfire though other than mine always go bang

I shot and still have their Standard velocity load. Never a problem.
Decent accuracy at 50 yds w/ my Ruger 10/22T and 77/22.
                        I’d get more if available.

I had a 77/22 when they first came out. I'm sorry I sold it.

                              Update !!

Aguila works fine when I shoot my S&W 617 in single action, but when I go double action only, all I get it's click, click, click, bang, click...

                                It's the "trigger job".

My idea of a Smith trigger job is to dry fire it thousands of times. Good for my fingers, good for the gun.
