10/22 why so popular

I rather like a 3-9x40 riflescope on a 10/22, something like a Simmons Whitetail Classic (made in Philippines, not Red China), which is--or at least was--a pretty good scope without breaking the bank. Not sure if the new Whitetail Classics are now Red China-made.

Obviously a Leupold or Redfield in 2-7x33 or 3-9x40 would be another excellent set of choices, and I have tried both (VX-1 and Revolution) on a 10/22.

while I am quite partial to my sporters posted above, I do have a later model with a simmons rimfire scope I put together for kids and other new shooters.. nothing exciting about it, but it runs smooth and reliable like every other 10/22 I've ever owned

just like the ARs its cheap, and plenty of aftermarket support even another company makes copies (Thompson center arms)

I got into the Ruger 10/22 after a coworker gave me a bad time about the firearms I had purchased. He told me every american should own a 10/22.

Well i bought a used 2014 model, then "built" one from scratch, and that has grown to 8 or so all with different purposes

The ease to work on makes them fun. The availability of parts to build a race rifle to a long distance target rifle is mind boggling.

They are cheap to get into for fun basic plinking and chasing a can across the desert floor or easily a 1000 dollar rifle

...gotta say, this 10/22 bug has bitten me too! It'll actually be my first rifle....and building it from the Brownells receiver, since there's too many aftermarket parts I didn't want to have laying around to tempt me into "well, you might as well build another"....LOL

Whatever you do, don't leave any "spare" parts....they always end up turning into another "build"... every. single. time.

Had a couple "spare" stocks because I stumbled on a couple P90 style Bullpup stocks and just had to build those... just because, well SG-1 or something... did an inventory, and only needed a couple things before I'd have the complete actions... yeah, just like that, it happens. There should be a 12 step plan or something.... but isn't it about 12 steps to put a 10/22 together from scratch anyway?

Bought the first one for my Daughter when she was 8, almost 21 years ago. I tricked it out for her. Then she grew and got her own gun safe, so I picked up 3 recievers to assemble 3 unique Plinkers.

I like rifles that have nice wood stocks and no accessories. For the price of some of these cosmetics for 10/22's, you can just buy an entire new rifle.

The stainless m60's are really nice.

Great feel to the gun when you throw it up to your shoulder. Reliable. Inexpensive. Runs forever. Viscerally satisfying clack to the bolt when you shoot. If you are feeling less-than-serious, making an aluminum can dance with a 25-round mag in the gun is all kinds of enjoyable.
