10/22 why so popular

I was lookin for a 22 LR rifle, and initially was leaning towards a bolt action unit (what I learned to shoot on). But the fun to have a semi and a takedown for a small bag to lug around when going out, I just couldn't pass up on the 10/22 takedown.

The 10/22 takedown is plenty accurate for my purposes; a little target and plinking. My eyesight is not what it used to be, and the 10/22 is ore accurate than me, unless I fit a scope. Figured I would go with a cheap red dot (got a little AT 3) and have been enjoying it since. Also love the fact that you can load a few mags and go, vs trying to top off, etc while out.

When I was doing some researching the 10/22 come across as very reliable and durable. The only mods I did was the auto bolt release and a 2 MOA red dot. The trigger and everything else seems fine for a fun rifle.

Only had mine a short while, but can easily see why it so popular. It also builds confidence when you see people who has had theirs for decades, owns multiple ones, bought their kids ones, etc. Normally tells you Ruger did something right with it.

OP, I'm with you, I prefer the model 60 over the 10/22. The model 60 is easier to load and you don't forget your mags.

I originally bought mine in 1973 because it resembled an M1 carbine. It was my first firearm. All original parts still. Many 1000's of rounds thru it. No problems...still shoots. I can knock soda cans over at 50 yards all the time. Stock sights.

The one reason I don't like 10/22's are threads like this. It's like women showing off their shoes and purses.

+1 on the 783 .22 WMR, my favorite rimfire bolt action rifle

10/22’s are the glocks of rimfire rifles, upgrades are numerous.
None of mine are stock; light and heavy barrels, extended mag
releases, trigger upgrades, AR-style and thumbhole stocks etc.

I had one about a year or two after my first 10/22 growing up..

I own both A 10/22 in stainless and 3 Marlin Model 60's. The 10/22 doesnt come out of the safe much. All three of my Marlins out shoot the 10/22. I won't sell the 10/22, as it might be a project build in my retirement years.

ive always been a Marlin guy when it came to .22 rifles , the first rifle i ever bought was a Marlin Model 60 , unfortunately i do not have that particular rifle ay longer but i have owned a model 60 for the last 25 years as well as a Marlin .22 mag Mod 783 for a few longer than that
they are dependable and accurate ,i can shoot a cotton mouth in the head with iron sights at 10-15 yards ive never had a instance where i needed or ran out of ammo so the added capacity of a 10/22 really was never a selling point for me
if you have one what exactly is your personal reasoning that gravitated you to it

I had one and I was not crazy about it, but lately I shot a compact version and I loved it. I am considering getting one again in the compact form.

Speaking of 10/22’s. I bought this baby on Christmas. Can’t wait to pick it up at the gun shop. For me a lot of it is nostalgia, I grew up on a 10/22 (still have it)

Great rifle! The sights are good, sight adjustment instructions can be found starting at page 37 of Mini 14 manual linked below. Instructions were missing in my 10/22 manual. Get a inexpensive low mount red dot sight, will go on and off with pretty good return to zero. Lots of fun in that rifle enjoy.

Because with a wood stock, web sling and Tech Sights they look like little M-1 Garands?

I have the M1-Garand version and a synthetic stock, scoped version.
Both are fun, inexpensive rifles to shoot.
