Just ordered a 17 / Had to get something else

SEE POST # 13 FOR UPDATE

I've been wanting a .17 HMR for a while and I finally ordered one. Found a Savage B-17 Compact for $245 online with free shipping. Savage has a $50 rebate that just started today. With transfer fee, DROS and tax my net OTD cost will be $293.28. I figure this should be a good starting point for this round.

Meet a bolt-action rimfire built for the modern age—and for the shooter's body. The B17 F Compact uses an ergonomically designed stock, higher comb, top tang safety and target style, vertical pistol grip to allow shooters to hold the rifle in a more natural position that puts less pressure on the wrist. It features a button-rifled barrel, a 10-round rotary magazine and the accuracy-boosting adjustable AccuTrigger™.
    Features

    Bolt-action 17 HMR
    User-adjustable AccuTrigger
    10-round rotary magazine
    Button-rifled barrel
    Modern, ergonomic composite compact stock
    Top tang safety
Drilled and tapped for scope mounts

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Savage makes outstanding rimfire rifles. I have one of their target models (Mark II BV with 21" barrel) and it is extremely well built and accurate.

I was hoping to get one with a 21" barrel but with the way things are I'm happy to have found one at a good price.

This one has an 18" barrel. Hopefully it will be pretty accurate since it has a button rifled barrel.

I got a 93R over a year ago for a song. 21" stainless bbl and it shoots as well as my CZ plus the accutrigger is sweet. (I also have a little FVSR 22lr)

Money well spent OP. These little rifles are a great value.

17hmr is pure cheating. Flat shooting and accurate.

I like Savage rifles too. This is my 3rd one. I have a 64 and an Axis II Precision Rifle in .223.

I'm pretty excited for the .17HMR. I've been wanting this for quite some time.

I bought the 93R a while back - like shooting it but don't often enough

it is next to me however, in a corner of the Den, as I've been seeing Coyotes roaming about almost daily

during the obama firearm/ammo drought i got an unloved, barely used, scoped, 17hmr, bolt action rifle by marlin and 1000 rounds for $120 each. i was glad to find it then and i can still find 17hmr ammo today.

I have a Savage with the accutrigger and it is a frickin’ laser! I seriously am not a good enough shot to take full advantage of it - it explodes things

I just picked up an Anschutz 1517 last week.

I was considering a CZ457 but I found the Anschutz for only $200 more than the CZ so it was a no brainer to get the much nicer gun.
My previous 17HMR is a TC contender carbine which is too disrupting to reload because breaking the action open requires you to lose your sight picture and by the time you reload and try to find the squirrel, they have ducked back down into a hole.
I think that being able to stay on target while chambering a fresh cartridge is going to greatly increase my hits on pairs.

OK, so I guess I spoke too soon. I had ordered from a store that uses Ammo Ready for their website and they draw off of their distributors inventory. The one I ordered got sold out before they got to my order and they refunded my money on Saturday.

I was looking all over this weekend to get something with no luck. I finally got lucky and Gallery of Guns listed 5 of the B17 FV Stainless. It was almost $100 more before rebate but at least it will come with the Davidson's Lifetime Warranty. And, since I got it off of GoG there's no transfer fee. So my new OTD price after rebate will be $364.61

Looks like you did better. This version looks like it comes with a heavier barrel.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Yup, this one 21" with the heavy barrel. The other one was 18" with the standard barrel.

This one will also look pretty cool sitting next to my slightly modified 10/22.
