Advantage Arms Glock 17 22LR Slide Ammo Recommendation

Just got an Advantage Arms 22LR slide for my Glock 17 and after unpacking it and mounting it on my Glock, I saw a list of ammo recommendations. I was surprised to read that they do not recommend Federal 22LR ammo. But it does say on their website that it does well with any 40 grain 22LR ammo. I have the Federal Target Grade Performance 40 Grain ammo and want to know if there are any issues with this ammo. Is there a specific issue with Federal ammo that doesn't allow it to cycle well with the slide? Thanks.

Remington Golden Bullets are recommended on my older Advantage Arms 22 conversion.
Seem to work great, and are generally the least expensive of the many 22's out there.

I second the remingtons. Buy them by the bucket. Wouldn’t run them in anything else but my Glock conversion loves them.

Why not use what they recommend and what most people use? CCI mini mags.

Go ahead and try your target grade. If Iftars fails to cycle, there is your answer.

These slides can be jam city until you break it in and get it lubed just right...and keep it clean. And even then you can get jams occasionally even in the best conditions. At least you'll get a lot of tap, rack, and roll practice...this is good, bc you want that to happen subconsciously.

This slide will be good training and to maximize your trigger time. Too bad that even 22 can be hard to find if you don't already have it in your home inventory.

I think we will all have much more 22 training going on for the foreseeable future.

If you get tired of shooting your glock with 22 slide, look into getting a nice dedicated 22 target pistol. Your federal target grade ammo can be used for that.

Try all kinds and go with the ones that your conversion kit likes. Manufacturer has their standard recommendation, but it could vary.

There is a couple ammo, that I would not run or double check on any .22:
Remington Thunderbolts, known/rumor to leave leading in barrels.
CCI Stingers, would verify if the longer casing will fully chamber before using.


There really is nothing wrong with the majority of the .22 ammo. It's just asking a lot for a .22 to cycle an entire slide, so that is why there will be failures. The BuckMark, Ruger 22/45, and CZ Kadet a known to eat almost variety of ammo, is because they pretty much cycle only a bolt (not the entire slide).

I've used Federal 36grn bulk ammo without problems. Ive found if you use a drop of ATF in the box and shake well they feed 100%

Remington Golden Bullets were the only 22lr that would cycle my AA kit. Even had issues with Mini Mags. Sold it a while back, but definitely remember the Golden Bullets as the go-to. Good luck

Far and away, the absolute best round I ever found for a rimfire conversion was Remington Viper hyper velocity.

It ran through all three of my conversion slide/barrel kits like water through a siv. Shot like a laser at 50 yds too.

It still shows up on internet websites, but is OOS on all of them so I don't know if Remington still makes it.

If you can find it, buy it. Or tell me where you found it and I'll buy it.
