Buck Mark & Ammo

Greetings,

First post... Just placed an order for a Browning .22LR Buck Mark Plus UDX with the Walnut handle.

Read thru numerous posts here (not all?) and have seen the comment "eats anything" at least a couple of times.

My question is, for those owning and shooting Buck Marks, what is your experience in ammo? Are there any specific brands/type that works better or more importantly don't work with the Buck Mark? Is it finicky with ammo? OR will it truly "eat anything"???

One of the big reasons for adding a .22LR is that it's "cheaper" and one can have lots of fun on the range without breaking the bank. But if I buy a couple of bricks of .22LR ammo that the gun spits out, well, that's a waste.

I've run CCI, Aguila (had a couple FTE but the slide had been getting a little dirty and once cleaned up ran fine), rem Golden bullets, winchester, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head through my URX. All went bang so yeah I'm comfortable loading anything into my buckmark and not expecting issues.

There's definitely performance differences between all those brands and loadings but thats because they're different loadings I'd argue, not because the buckmark had problems with any.

TLDR version: yeah you're gtg, itll eat whatever you feed it. Nice purchase! They are a lot of fun to shoot and a lot of fun to build out! There's a thread on here titled "buckmark porn" that you should check out, LOTS of ideas for things to do with your buckmark!

I have 3 Buckmarks , Micro , Base Camper and UDX Laminate. I've shot CCI Mini Mags , CCI AR Tactical , CCI SV , Stingers , Winchester Super X , Federal blue box with no issues except when the Camper was new I had 3 FTE with the SV and never happened again.

Haven't tried any other brands yet , it's just what I had on hand over time.

I generally just use CCI Mini mags because they tend to work best across my .22s.

During the .22 shortage of 2013 I was buying just about anything I could get my hands on and don’t recall having any significant problems.

Of course, if you do have any problems, that would be a great excuse to buy a revolver in .22.

I do not like golden bullets or thunderbolts because they are just too dirty IMO.

I had BM Lite and Contour, my two BM ate whatever on sale. All of my 22LR ammo I paid on sale around 3 or 4 cent a pop , but CCI MiniMag and CCI SV I paid more.

My camper's favorite is CCI Blazer. Does not do well with Federal.

My old Browning Buckmark with the bull barrel and target sights will eat anything including 'Thunderduds' and Golden Bullets, Aguila, Federal, Winchester white and black box, CCI, etc. Haven't had a problem with it over the thousands and thousands of rounds fired, and the 20+ years that I have owned it.

If you buy extra magazines, make sure to get authentic Browning ones, not aftermarket knock offs. I had bought the new in package Browning ones, even paying close to $40 dollars each back in the day...

CCI mini mags work best. If you want, break it in with that.

After, I used Federal bulk. Works fine for me. Just gets dirty as hell.

Thanks all for the responses! Given the ammo inventory "pandemic" I should be ok with whatever ammo I can source. Sounds like few, if any, problems feeding/ejecting ammo with the BM - but more with issues of performance quality/dirty ammo, etc.

When I had a Buckmark, it ate everything. Certain brand of ammo groups better than others in a particular gun. Trial and error until you find ammo that groups well in your Buckmark.

I've put over 5k rounds of CCI Mini-Mag through my Buckmark and never had an issue.

It really does eat mostly everything. Goldenbuckets, Aguila, Copper-22, and various others. I highly enjoy the fireball that comes with Stinger rounds

(The OP and I are long-time friends, and I was responsible for introducing him to shooting with my G17 and Ruger Single Six.)

Let me add Armscor rounds as no problem through my BuckMark Plus UDX. So fun! Working on my accuracy at 25 yards now. That's the max distance at the indoor range I frequent.
