I do love the classic look of blued steel (S&W 17 K-22 in pic), but no question that stainless steel is easier to maintain and more durable
(e.g., more rust resistant, you can buff out scratches, resistant to holster wear, etc.).

I picked up a Ruger single six with a 9 1/2" barrel and 2 cylinders. It's a fun gun and very accurate. I want to upgrade to a 10 shot S&W, but for now, this will do just fine.

I'll echo the other recommendations - Ruger Single Six for an inexpensive gun, and S&W 617 if you don't mind the cost.

The cheaper guns are OK - Rough Rider, EAA, Taurus, High Standard Sentinels - but they don't have the accuracy or craftsmanship of the Ruger or S&W. They're good plinkers, though.

The 12-round version is legal in CA. Revolver cylinders and tubular magazines (lever actions, etc.) with more than 10 round cap are not high-caps.

Just to throw in my 2 cents. HEAR HEAR for the Bearcat. But for the DA revolver go with the Smith.

Just picked up my Heritage. Nice heavy solid feeling gun. Got the one for 22LR and 22 Mag - just switch cylinders. About $200. Haven't got out to shoot it yet

Some neat, older Double action .22 revolvers

I almost bought a single-six. That got me intrigued with the rimfire revolver. What are my choices besides ruger? I love ruger revolvers but am a new S&W fan. I know a lot of companies make rimfire guns. Any opinions on decent r/r's? Double action is good but single action is better. Any experience with Heritage SAs? I appreciate it, guys.

Do you shoot your S&W 17 k-22-or, are you just keeping it as a safe queen? In the picture it appears to not having been shot!
