That is the LAR&R facility. I used to shoot there. It is set up for smallbore rifle competition only. Only members can shoot there, and it is not set up for a father to teach a son on how to shoot. If anyone wants to get into smallbore shooting, go there and the members will gladly help anyone get started in the sport. Most of the members may be old, but they are friendly and some of the nicest people you will meet.

Rim fire Ranges?

I think your referring to the old "Alhambra Police Range" which used to be next door to the current range. I learned to shoot there in the early 60s. That range closed in the late 80s. Rumor had it they were sued by So Cal Edison because idiots would overshoot the berm and rounds landed on the Edison HQ which was about a mile across the river. I worked just across the park from there and used to go shoot on my lunch hour.Comment

Not sure if Angeles Shooting Range might be far for you, but I really like their rimfire section. It has reactive metal targets. It's not that loud because the section is off to the side.Comment

Apple Valley has a indoor rimfire available 24/7? Seriously? That sounds amazing.sigpic

I used to shoot at the Police Range in Rosemead with father. it had a tunnel you had to cross to get to the 25 yard targets. You were in trench under the targets and you set your targets and then with pulleys raised them above the trench. It was a hassle to change targets and we used to only use one target for the whole outing. I first shot a gun there, an original Springfield 1911 that my dad had and unfortunately traded for a Gold Cup. You could not use magnum ammo and we used to shoot his Model 27 with wadcutter reloads we would buy at the range.Comment

Prado is a dump
Prado is kind of a dump, their fees are high and the overall condition of the place is just run down. It was supposed to be an Olympic facility back in '84 but all they have is portapotties? And the staff are not very professional. Last time I used their rimfire rifle range, one of the range staff came in and told me I couldn't shoot from a standing position--only from the bench. That wasn't in any of their posted rules. What kind of rule is that? I was observing every rule of safe gun handling. In fact, at the time, I was the only person in the whole building. So I have no use for a range with staff and rules like that. BTW the previous time I was there, a junior Olympic team came in and started practicing--and of course every one of those kids was standing.
So I will not go back to Prado--even though I drive past it twice a day on my daily commute.Comment

That's the first place I ever shot. My dad would take me their on a Saturday morning. He would shoot pistol and I would fire my Winchester bolt action 22 rifle, usually prone. It always made me a bit nervous going down in the trench to change targets, with bullets whizzing overhead and every once in a while someone striking one of the metal target frames.
