For .223 and .22LR it's 9x at 100 yards, if you want to see the holes.

I might suggest a spotting scope. Will work for this rifle and future ones. I bought a 30X Minox for like $200

< 1/4" holes at 100 yards are tough for me to see at 9X. It depends. But at 30X it doesn't.

Lots of great options... But buy an Athlon if you want a quality scope with high magnification, lots of features, for a good price. I’ve shot many of what others in this thread recommended, and I’d say the Athlon is tough to beat.

I have the DB Tactical 6-24x50 on a Ruger Precision Rimfire, it’s another good option. Good glass, but not as clear as the Athlon or as forgiving at full power. I’ve had good luck with the Vortex Crossfire II series in 12x and 16x power and keep a 4-16x50 AO on a bull barreled 10/22. Whatever you buy, find one with AO to 25yds or less.

I have the Argos BTR 6-24x50. It’s a “low end” option, I found mine on Amazon for $300. Crisp glass, 30mm tube, generous eye relief throughout the range of magnification, illuminated reticle, FFP. Put it on a CZ455 VPT and it’s perfect. Better quality glass than my Vortex Viper HST, and the nicest option I’ve found in the price range IMHO. Next up is either the Midas Tac or Ares BTR for a Vudoo barreled action I have coming.

If your shooting a 22 from the bench and want a cheap good quality scope checkout the 24X and 36X Weavers.

At 100 yards I rarely use more than 42 power.

Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16x or 6-24x.

Well OP, I'm a bit late to the party. But second 3006's recommendation.

I have the same scope on my .22RF Mossberg md 144. Which will kill a dime at 50 yds first shot every shot. And on calm day when loose screw behind trigger does his part. Will do same to a quarter at 100 yds all day.

And on a H&R .223 bull barrel single shot.

I'd use a spotting scope rather than mounting a big heavy scope on a .22LR rifle. Small guns with big scopes look like monster trucks to me. Not fun off the bench.
