Rimfire Scope Recommendations for 100 Yards

    Hello,

I am looking for a scope that I can use as far out as 100 yards (maybe more) for rimfire. I am thinking a scope up to 24x in adjustable magnification should be sufficient for being able to see the holes out to that distance.

Where I need help is the reticle and internal adjustment. I am interested in something that I can use for ranging, but also something that is not too thick, i.e. makes it hard to see the impacts. Also, how much travel should I be looking at in terms of being able to get out to 100?

A good brand with good glass and reliably repeatable turrets would be great. I am looking to spend no more than $350.

    Thanks,

The Tasco target series works great for me easy to to see 22 cal holes a 100 yards or even 200 with the 6x24 but fell free to spend 10 times as much.

I think pretty much any centerfire scope that has an adjustable parallax that will dial down to 25 yards will work for rimfire.

That being said, for rimfire specific scopes I'd suggest either a Weaver RV9 or a Leupold VX-Freedom. Both are 3-9 though and they get excellent reviews.

Don’t rule out the 3x9. Everyone’s eyesight varies I know but I have a vortex and a Nikon both 3x9x40 on both of the 10/22 rifles I have and I can see the holes in my paper at 150yds.

But if your looking at budget minded good glass maybe check out the Athlon Optics line. I have one I bought used that is really nice for the money. Save as much as you can for ammo!!!

I've got this on my Anschutz. Great price, pretty good glass, and the finest reticle I could find on a scope I wanted and liked.

Check out Clearidge Optics. Clear, bright, and well-built. Several models with choice of reticles. $200-300 range +/-.

Leupold Freedom 2x7 32mm. Get the .22LR version. Only $179. If you want 3x9, get the VX-Freedom 3x9 32 mm, it has an adjustable parallax so it's always sharp at any distance. Only 12 oz too. $299.

Thank you everyone for the feedback and very budget-friendly recommendations.

First off, my apologies for not being more specific about my shooting plans in my original post. I am planning on setting up a .22 rifle for precision bench shooting. I spend a good part of the weekend looking over what you guys recommended. The lower and mid-range magnification scopes would be great for off-hand shooting and casual plinking.

I do have a more general question for all of you: for shooting under 50 yards, how big of a deal is a parallax set at a further distance?

Paseclipse, I am currently running with your recommendation on the minimum parallax.

3006 and Spyder, I really like the price of the Tasco and the Vortex Crossfire II 6-18x44 you guys recommended, as well as the fine reticle. My one concern is the turrets and how repeatable they are. Would you happen to have any feed back on that?

Bullets&Whitewalls, I spent a lot of time going over Athlon's various offerings, and it made my head spin lol! I am currently looking at the Midas Tac 6-24x50 based on the reviews and the fact that it focuses down to 10 yards and has a nice open dot in the reticle.

JagerDog I almost bought that Vortex Viper, but then got distracted by the new Diamonback Tactical lol! I can't help but wonder what the difference in image quality is between the two scopes.

AtomicOrange, thank for the heads up on Clearidge. I had no idea this brand even existed. I will look into it more.

denpython, Quiet and Jimi Jah, thank you for those recommendations as well as the coupon code. I am looking at those for a future lightweight setup.

Well, the Viper is an upgrade from a Diamondback (as evidenced by the price).

I have a Viper (different reticle) and it beats my Nikon Monarch (to my eye) with near exact same specs.

Scopes tuned to 100 yards parallax can be quite blurry at say 25 yards. I've run into that trying to proof pistol caliber carbines at the indoor range.

I've read good things about the Weaver "varmint" scopes. Check out Natchezss.com

                          Here's another option:

https://www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-20x42-t....html?___SID=U Straight 20X is going to be better glass than a variable of the same cost. Nice parallax adjustment down to 10m. Gobs of elevation adjustment. Personally, I think that just might be a winner for your application.

                          Poke around here:

                          Used units here:

If your budget is $350, I'd refrain from getting lured to $100 scopes.

Its only to 9x but I just picked up a Nikon EFR 3-9 for my Kidd and its working out well. with a 22 I really suggest having the adjustable parallax for when you aren't shooting all the way to 100.

Leupolds 3x9 VX freedom does have that parallax turret up front. Sharp at any distance.
