Is yours a more recent one or older model? Just curious. Mine will run Golden Bullets also now, which is a good thing since they are cheap and I have a twin tower of buckets still and a stack of 550's too. Tons of mini-mags, but I'd rather shoot them in other guns. I gave up on anything Federal running the gun. It does not shoot long without cleaning or CLP, I agree. IIRC my AA Glock slide gets dirty too. Got spoiled by a Ruger MKII as my first rimfire pistol. Basically saving the P22 for my son who might like it, plus I believe in crappy triggers helping trigger control.

Mine is maybe 4 years old.

I ended up buying a couple off roster 22 pistols (M&P22CA, Ruger SR22) and they both run just about anything I feed them without issue.

Shot my older vintage Walther P22 yesterday and good thing I brought 5 different boxes of HV 22LR.
Did not waste good MiniMags on it but guess which ammo shot 100 %
Dirty old Remington Thunderbolts went 10rounds x10 mags no FtF no FtE. I wrote that down so I remember what to feed it next time.

My P22ca is a year old, that said, I've only been able to fire maybe 20 rounds through it.
Went to the range last week and it jammed almost every round, had to pull the slide back to eject the round before firing the next one...
I suspect it's from using something other than magnums from what I've read.
I should be able to buy the mini mags just about anywhere, yes?

Try a firmer grip on the pistol. Most failure to eject on these pistols is from limp wristing.

If you're roster exempt, I would recommend the new Taurus TX22.

Find a used Ruger SR22 (off roster), night and day next to a P22...

Reliability and accuracy are noticeably better, similar concept of a small, light semi-auto that's cheap and fun to shoot, with better execution. Worth paying the "off roster premium" for something you'll actually look forward to taking with you to the range. Got an SR22 for the wife, she never touched the P22 again... the SR is her "fun gun".

A P22 can be finessed to shoot most anything (good for learning some 'smithing skills), and stock it is usually happy with CCI Mini-Mags (and likely a few other similar offerings with comparable ballistics from other brands).

I always expect to have to polish things up on a "new" gun, but some just aren't quite as refined as others, no matter how much work you put in.

I have an S & W 422. Very accurate, shoots most anything reliably and the grips are comfortable for folks with small hands as well. easy to manipulate, easy to clean and has very little muzzle flip, even for a 22.

Awesome little trainer for my nieces when they go shooting. They're 11.

                        The tale of Walther P22CA.
I had one , my friend had one, both about 4/5 years old, both pistols are picky ammo, both of us bashed the P22CA, both of us don't shoot P22CA no more. Another friend had P22CA, two years old, and it shoot reliable liked Buckmark/Ruger Mk II. I even offer him that if he need parts for his P22CA he can take mine, he replied is "NO" (Edit: Because he does not want to contaminate his P22CA with my P22CA parts). I don't think the newer production of P22CA line is better than the old one. Because all P22CA models on 10+ year old Roster and they are same tools , same manufacture, same design, same …. , otherwise will dropped off from the Roster.

So it's a rolling a dices. Good luck.

It’s the biggest turd I’ve ever shot. The only gun I’ve ever sold. Run and buy a buckmark.

I've always had good luck with my P22. Shoots anything. Most people have no problems. But it seems they have a higher percentage of guns that have problems.

That's from pushing the slide lock lever up while firing, operator error.
