Rimfire is exempt for rifles, but not for pistols
    What he said.

Rimfire is exempt from CA assault weapons laws for rifles.
Rimfire is not exempt from CA assault weapons laws for pistols.

It's also reasonable question for CT, NJ, and NY.

CT = rimfire exemption for rifles, but not from pistols.
NJ & NY = no rimfire exemption for rifles and pistols.

So you can have a threaded muzzle on a .22 rifle but not on a .22 pistol? I have several .22 pistols that have threaded muzzles. I know I can bring off roster handguns with me when I move here but I can't bring one with a threaded muzzle?

A threaded barrel on a rimfire semi-auto pistol that does not have a fixed magazine is considered an assault weapon. [PC 30515(a)(4)(A)]

A threaded barrel on a rimfire semi-auto pistol with a fixed 10 or less round magazine is CA legal.

A threaded barrel on a rimfire manually operated repeating pistol is CA legal.

A threaded barrel on a rimfire single-shot pistol is CA legal.

A threaded barrel on a rimfire revolver is CA legal.

Thanks for the info....could a person thread-lock the thread protector and make it legal?

CA DOJ wants it "permanently attached".

In the CA DOJ assault weapons regulations, it mentions that...

Permanent methods of attachment include full-fusion gas or electric steel-seam welding, high-temperature (1100o F) silver soldering, or blind pinning with the pin head welded over.

And Franklin Armory has a variety of fairly potent AR-15 pattern rifles in .17 WSM.

Also, a dedicated .22lr upper like a Nordic, can be assembled on a standard multi-cal AR lower.
