I paid $250 for the rifle. I'm thinking of getting a Bushnell rimfire scope which is around $40. My budget for a scop is no more than $100

The savage is very nice for the money spent. More accurate then me. I'm not into bench resting, I want to do more then pull a trigger. I got a bv for 300. Might be cheaper in your area.

Save alittle more $$ and get a Nikon Buckmaster 4-14x40SF ~$300. If that's honestly too much money, then a Mueller APV ~$150.

Most of the older Remington are good shooters. Like the mod 10 & 11 TargetMasters.
Might be hard to find because of age.

I got the 4x bushnell and it seems fine. Who knows how well it will hold up in the long run, but for 25$ who cares. Most people will say you should get a scope that costs way more, but your not shooting extreme long distance, or in the rain\snow\sand. Just my .02. Also I would have went with .17 hmr. Ammo is a little more but it's so worth it. That's a hot little rimfire. 1 more thing, I do have a 300$ Leupold on my .308 so I'm not just some person that buys the cheapest **** around. Usually you do get what you paid for.

My vote is for the CZ 452. They are true beauties! Although, new they are not in your price range anymore. Try to find one used. Their keepers!

I went with a MK II F but then the dealer magically had a MK II with a wooden stock for $2 more than the synthetic so I went with the wooden stock.

I have always heard that bolt action rifles were more accurate than semi-automatics.Lever and pump actions count as bolt action in the accuracy theory. I don't know if it is true. I do know that Annie Oakley never shot a 597 or 10/22.

I've had a Remington 521T since 1968, and it is so good that I doubt I will ever buy another .22 rifle. They aren't cheap, though, and since 1968 is about when production ended, a lot of them had a gazillion rounds put through them and have lost their best accuracy. Nonetheless, a 5-shot group at 50' covered by a dime is a piece of cake.

In a new .22, my brother just bought a Savage MkII bolt-action for $120 at a Wally-World in Western Washington, and that's another nail driver. I just can't see how you'd go wrong with one of those.
