    suggestions for a cheap .22lr

I've recently found a range 10min down the road from my place. My collection shoots some pricy ammo. I'm looking for a cheap semi-accurate .22lr that can be found for under $200. I'm looking for 1-2" groupings at 50 yards. If this isn't possible then still suggest the next best thing for under 200. Thanks

10/22 is great but can end up a money pit
if you want a good shooter out of the box with no intention of fixing it up...
got with a marlin model 60

yea, my ar-15 is enough of a money pit. I'm just looking for something that is cheap, good to go and doesn't need an work (i'll probably add a cheapo scope to it though). This is just something that allows me to shoot everyweekend on my college budget.

One option is to go with a S&W 22A. I had one and it was very accurate (I miss it alot now). Has a cool rail mount on all their barrels. They have various barrel sizes that you can get for it also. Ive seen them go for $180-$260 used. The S&W 22A is under rated IMO.

            Remington 597. Love mine.
I paid $169 for the base model.

Check the Marlin 795 Post, got mine for $167 otd after rebate from Big 5 recently. Might still be able to get one for cheap like that. Otherwise, the used 10/22 is also a good suggestion but good luck finding a cheap one with the way things are atm.

go with the marlin 60 if you are just looking to fart around at the range
as you stated, you wont have to buy anything for it other than a scope if you wanted. doesnt use mags since its tubular fed so no worries on hoarding mags. just head to the range with the 60 and a box of bulk .22lr and you can shoot all day lol.

they come standard with a "bull" barrel if thats your fancy and will shoot quarter sized groups at 50yrds no prob

are they still $120-$130 at big5?

The Ruger 10/22 can be had for around $200 on sale. These little guns are great and run forever. They can also be made into custom tack drivers, for a fee. The best part is if you want to get rid of one they sell quick and at close to new price. In fact Bass pro has them at $199 right now:

My first option was to get a 10/22, but then when I thought about it I figured I would be dumping way too much money into it. I was looking for a cheap 22lr rifle that was accurate out of the box. After I shot a buddy's savage mkII, I was sold. I've seen them go for just a little over 200 so do some search and figure out what you want.

Stop by your local gun store or pawn shop and pick the used .22 you like.

A Ruger 10/22 would be a good first choice. I have one and have put Tech Sights on it so that I have a AR sight picture.
