    AR legal 22lr conversion thread...

Can someone go over the legalities of the putting a 22lr upper on a lower? We are allowed to have full use of detachable mags right?

Can have whatever you want, and if you have pre ban mags you can use those also.

Rimfire magazines are not exempt from the high-cap mag ban, right?

No, rimfire magazines are not exempt. In other words, they also fall under the ban.

I believe what the earlier poster was referring to is that if you have pre-ban hi-cap .22LR magazines, you can use them. But that is true of all pre-ban, hi-cap magazines, so I'm not sure what the point was.

Remember 223 pre bans can only be used with featureless setups, rimfire can have all the evil features

AWB and LCMB are 2 different bans.

AWB is for centerfire semi-auto rifle, that's where .22lr RIMFIRE get the exemption, ie. you can have all the evil features you would want and still wouldn't make it an AW.

LCMB (large capacity magazine ban) is for all >10 rounds magazines, centerfire, rim fire, bolt gun, pistol all inclusive.

Also, what you get for RIMFIRE is that your rifle oal is 26" instead of 30", even tho your barrel still need to be 16".

with a .22 upper, does your lower have to be marked multi caliber or .22 to be legal?

no. markings are not a point of law when AWB is considered.

Does .22 conversion inserts to a .223 upper count or does it have to be actual .22LR upper?

Although not required it is peace of mind to have a lower marked Multi or .22lr. My spikes lower is marked Multi.
