I have never done a 795 barrel swap. But from what I have read the way the barrel presses in and the way it is pinned it is not very easy to do it.

Hi guys I'm new and I just want to say that I love the marlin 795 I think it is an under dog

There has been a lot of support, at least on this board, for the 795 and it seems to be seen as an equal now and not necessarily the underdog. Granted, the 10/22 is the ubiquitous .22lr for the layman it seems, but amongst the firearms community, the 795 has it's place at the side of the 10/22. Having shot both, I'm glad I made the choice I did. Out of the box, the 795 is ready to go with few issues that are easily remedied whereas the 10/22 seems to need more tweaking to get things right;that's not saying it's a bad platform, but it seems it requires more of an investment to meet your expectations.

So is there an inexpensive mag loader that'll work on the 795 mags? I kinda don't wanna spend $28 for the baby uplula..

Best free one I use are my thumb callouses; those little mags can be brutal...

Did not know that about the 60; as for the 795 being a mag fed version of the 60, I believe that is the case as everything else seems identical except for the feeding particulars.

As far as I know there are no released numbers of 70, 70pps, 795 and 7000 but I bet they rival the 10/22's sale numbers themselves.

I don't know of any commercial ones. I made some home made ones out of a DVD case.

You depress the follower with it then insert a nail thru the hole to hold it down.

My girlfriend likes them, I've decided to stick to hand loading. Seriously considering a babylula aswell..

Random thought: If I were able to pick up a 7000-series heavy barrel, would it be easy to fit to the 795 receiver and then I'd need to just work on the stock to fit the barrel?

My purpose was a bare-bones Appleseed/survival rifle. I think that has been achieved; durable, simple, and good at what it does.

Your rifle is pretty much the perfect Appleseed Liberty trainer rifle



I wish they would too but the way that most stores can barely keep any firearm in stock I think those days are long gone.

My purpose was a bare-bones Appleseed/survival rifle. I think that has been achieved; durable, simple, and good at what it does.

I doubt any 795s or .22lr rifles in general will ever be near those prices; with the economy, the state of CA laws, and the election year rush, we won't see lower prices for a while, if at all.

No problem! Just trying to help and show what I've done and my thoughts.

Re: Tech Sights; they are tough and stiff to move. On my Mini, they've eased up with use, but are still somewhat stiff, especially the elevation wheel. I should've paid the $5 for the tool when I bought the sights for my Mini, but now really don't want to order just that so if the Marlin sights are reeeeallllllllyyyyy worth it, then I'll get 2, but until then I have a small screwdriver handy at the range.

Pictures/Review/Parts List

Ok, I figured I will just sum up my 795 as a whole while putting up the pics of the sight and a parts list as well with sources.

The Marlin upgraded sight is an OEM piece. It is shorter than the ladder setup and fits into the original dovetail and is held in place with a small screw for pressure as there is no hole to sink it into.

Windage adjustment is accomplished by sliding the small dovetail windage unit instead of the whole sight like the original; there are also windage hashes painted onto the sight body so you have a precise marker for shooting different weights/types of ammo.

Elevation is adjusted by the small screw second closest to the shooter, not the one with the ring around it(that I have no idea about what it's function is... ) and you either raise or lower it by using a small screwdriver; very simple and can allow for precise adjustment. Lefty-Loosey= POI Raised, Righty-Tighty= POI Lowered.

Overall, it is a great improvement for $10 & change and improves the sight picture as the white windage hashes help break up the sea of black of the sight, barrel, and front blade compared to the older setup.

All in all, I got the rifle for $180 OTD and have a little less than that in modifications. Has it been an utter value? That's a relative term and depends on the shooter; I've spent almost as much on mods as I have the rifle, but am nowhere near 10/22 territory. Was it great out of the box before the modifications? Yes. Is it even better now in my eyes and much better suited towards me? YES.

Things to do: The only other improvement I want is the front sight; the machined metal is tough to see and I may either paint it with a neon color or find a small gold bead a la 10/22 or shotgun and glue/attach that to the blade. A sling as well; after those two things, I am happy and done with adding parts to it and will just shoot the ever-loving s**t out of it. If I can shoot one with Tech Sights, I will decide then if it is worth it; TSs are great on my Mini but I don't know if the sights that are 33%-50% of the rifle's cost (depending on how much you pay for the rifle) are worth it compared to the $10 OEM piece.

Git my new sight in from Numrich and my ammo from PSA; pics to come. Very easy to install; the screw in the front dovetail is only there for pressure once the sight is in the dovetail. Overall, I like it more than the stock sight as it is a little slimmer and allows for windage adjustment via a smaller dovetail piece instead of the main dovetail. For $10 great upgrade!
