just bought one at the sports authority in gilroy. its the only sports authority in the bay area that sells guns. it came to 162 otd. you have to print out the internet ad and bring it with you. anyone know why they have an 11 day waiting period? i thought it was 10 days. whats the cheapest source for magazines?Comment

Vacaville Sports Authority also sells guns. Not quite the bay area though.
They have an 11 day waiting period to cover themselves. It's similar to other large stores that also sell guns. The extra day isn't a huge deal.
Big 5 has magazines for $17. I bought a few of them with the bloodydecks 20% coupons.
The current coupon excludes firearms and ammo. I'm not sure if Big 5 considers a magazine is somehow either of those.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

Still, I bit far for me to go. Re: the 11 day waiting period, you are correct. It's store policy and it is the only way a chain store can ensure that an employee, who doesn't quite understand the law, doesn't sell the gun at 9 days 23 hours. No a big deal if you buy in the evening, becuase you can pick it up the morning of the 11th day (i.e. they don't make you wait eleven 24-hr periods). Regardless.....wish the stores down here had them. Any quality firmarm for under $100 is a good deal, especially new. And under $100, I can bypass the CFOVacaville Sports Authority also sells guns. Marlin 795 LTR (Liberty Training Rifle) Mods
I'm not from California but I thought y'all might be interested in the mods I did to my 795 LTR:
Rifle: Marlin 795 from Dick's Sporting Goods- $102.18 after rebate.
Trigger related:
Polished all moving parts- smoothed pull.
Removed one coil from hammer spring- lightened trigger pull.
Weakened trigger return spring- lightened trigger pull.
Added epoxy to trigger mechanism- reduced creep.
Installed over travel screw- eliminated over travel.
Added trigger shoe- reduced felt pull.
Results: trigger pull = 4 lbs, no over travel, minimal creep, smooth, crisp.
Magazine related:
Black Plasti-Dipped magazines- mags now match color of gun, added weight makes for easier removal, wide bottom, non-slip for better grip.
Weakened magazine catch spring- easier removal (one finger) of magazine.
Beveled magazine well- easier to insert magazine.
Polished the feed ramp to a mirror finish.
Stock Related:
Replaced factory stock with a Ram-Line 885350A folding stock from Numerich Gun Parts- $22.45
Converted the above Ram-Line stock to a shortened, non-folding design for increased rigidity.
Moved pistol grip farther forward to reduce finger reach.
Shortened pistol grip to fit my hand better.
Filled gap between pistol grip and trigger guard with epoxy filler for aesthetics. Removable with a socket head cap screw- $2.00 for screw and for threaded brass insert installed in pistol grip.
Added M4 rubber butt pad for wider, more comfortable non slip surface- $9.99
Added 1/2" square steel tube to fore end and filled entire fore end with polyester resin to increase rigidity and add weight. Tubing from Home Depot was about $4.00.
Free-floated barrel to increase accuracy.
Drilled and tapped fore end and butt stock for swivel studs.
Removed and added material to improve fit of action and permit bolt release clearance.
Added 1 1/4" sling swivels from Dick's Sporting goods- $10.00.
Installed GI M14 web sling- $7.99 from CDNN Sports.
Other:
Polished all bolt faces down to 1200 grit.
Paint: Satin Black Krylon Fusion plastic paint- cost <$5.00
Scope: Leapers UTG 4X32 Extra Long Eye Relief TS Compact Scope SCP-432MDLDTS from Amazon- $56.95
Rings: Weaver Quad Lock #49053 from Dicks Sporting Goods- $10.57
It shoots beautifully as long as it's clean. I stay away from the really cheap, dirty discount ammo and use Federal Auto Match from Wal-Mart. In addition to being more accurate, it seems to shoot quite a bit cleaner than the really cheap stuff. I'd like to try Wolf Match Target but can't find it locally.
Oh, and by the way, CDNN has the mags on sale for $11.99 http://www.cdnninvestments.com/specials.htmlLast edited by Unbridled Liberty; 08-15-2010, 6:29 PM.Comment

Took my oldest daughter to the range today to let her shoot the .22 (marlin 795) and saw they had installed on the rimfire range 2 steel targets out at the 100yd line. Each target had a 5x10, 4x8 and a 3x6 or about those sizes hanging on chains. My daughter was hitting them about 8 out of 10 times and worked her way to the smaller ones
Did pretty well for a 12 yr old girl and a 795!
also went to the local farm/feed/ranch store and they had a few pink .22 rifles..Probably crickets and now she thinks she needs a pink gun. Im thinking another 795 with a painted stock.Last edited by Glackowitz; 08-22-2010, 11:36 AM.Comment

This thing is a pain in the *** to clean!
...Maybe it is because I saved it for last...
Not a bash, I finally got to put quite a few rounds out at 100 and 100+ yards and was very impressed! Need to go back and read those posts on the trigger job now though...I don't know how political I am, I don't get into all that crap....I just love freedom...

I just bought the 'Center Point' (model# AR 22 Series) from Walmart for only $54.97. freakin wayy better than tech sights. its got mil-dot reticle it illuminates red or green for night time. its torture tested up to a .416 caliber rifle. lifetime warranty. its 100% waterproof fogproof and shockproof. it has windage and elevation adjuster you can adjust with just your hands no need of a flathead screwdriver anymore. its specifically made for .22 rifles. it already comes with 3/8" dovetail rings so no need to buy anything extra. what more do i need to say. look for it and buy it heres the barcode 843382000523Comment

cant wait to go pick it up! The micro grooved barrels sold me. on top of that it would have costed $135 more to get a 10/22. just to shoot the same ammo? i dont think so. thanks to this forum for keeping my mind set on a Marlin 795.

I got bored looking at my rifle so I figured since the stock is essentially plastic and when cleaning it there is no reason for solvent to come in contact with the stock (no parts in it), I would just paint it. I used Krylon Fusion ultra flat 4291 Khaki. No prep was done except for cleaning all oil off and taping off the holes. One thin coat and then three carefully done heavier coats. Some may find it interesting that the Butt Plate looks like it's just for looks but it does come out with some careful work. Good to know as I will be adding weight in the near future. It actually looks even better than what the pictures show and the finish is as advertised, ultra flat.
Not too bad for $5 and 2 hours work.
