just got the 795 for my girlfriend to shoot/keep. paid $149 - $20 rebate
so $130 plus tax/dros (~$165 otd). I am giving her my little 3-9 bushnell off my latest project and ordered myself a new 4-14.5 APV. she's pretty excited about it because it will be something for her to own instead of just using my guns. she also wants a bipod...... should be fun.
thanks for the heads up guys. I pick it up on the 9th

I am a big fan of boresnakes. When it comes to the bore, I have compared the performance of a boresnake versus a rod and I can't see a difference. (This was on an AR-15, so very similar diameter to a .22.) Having said that, I still like to use brushes and wipes to get the receiver clean.Leave a comment:

i used the wally world on my gsg. but i actually have deweys also. i used the same brush i had from wally on the non-coated dewey. yeah, a little tight. but it gets in there.
lots of debate on boresnake vs. rod. honestly, i prefer the rod. on my ak, i have no choice but to use the boresnake kit it comes with since i cannot easily put a rod from the back w/o bending it slightly. not a good feeling, even if it's a AK to use a boresnake.
i've met some who use boresnake on their GSGs also, which is a pita to strip sometimes (and where I can see the value). but ymmv. do what you feel is right. just for me, i don't get a good feeling, it's anal-retentive clean, using a boresnake. but no, i don't clean my guns after each outing also. just want to do a thorough job if/when i clean.
i'm picking mine up sunday capt!
now if badger will just reply back to my email which rings are compatible with 795. i think the rings will almsot be the cost of my rifle too. LOL

Finally going to the range to try the new rifle on Sat. I was wondering what people are using to clean their bores? I bought a rod at Wally world but it fit really tightly even though it was advertised as being for a .22 bore.
I ended up buying a bore snake, just wet it with CLP and ran it a few times through the barrel. Being a .22, do you all think I can get away with just using the bore snake or should I try and find a dedicated rod?Leave a comment:

Yea thats what I have. A Model 70 HC.I don't know if anyone else has covered this, but here goes...
The 795 seems to be an upgraded model 70. The model 70 didn't have a synthetic stock or the feature that holds the bolt open on the last round. The 70 and 795 use the same mags.
I bought my 70 years ago from B5 and payed about $120 for it. It's been a great shooter, and still is. Back then, there were hi-cap 25rnd mags available for it. I bought all that I could and am glad I did. I've added a scope and a bipod lug. I've noticed that over the years, my trigger has almost become a 2 stage. I've figured out where the slack is, then after that is where the hammer drops. The distance isn't much and takes a little bit to find it. This is the best varmit gun I have.
It seems that some are having difficulty finding mags for their 795s. I've got about a half dozen each of the 7rnd and 10rnd mags I could part with.
The stock 25 rd magazine has long since broke.
When I mount a Bushnell scope on it i can shoot pennies at 50 yards all day long.
My some shoot the little plastic soldiers.
I'm lookin for another wooden stock that I can chop a few inches off it so my 10 year old daughter can shoulder it. She loves shooting the Marlin.Leave a comment:

I've got 6 7rnd mags left if anyone wants them. They're used but in great shape. I'll take $12 each shipping included. Take them all for $60 and shipping included. Send me a PM if interested. All my spare 10rnd mags have been sold.Leave a comment:

Marlin has mags in stock for $17 but shipping is $8. Now if you buy more than one mag I think the shipping is still $8. MarkLeave a comment:
