Did this fall out of my 10/22?

I took my two 10/22's (both with Magpul Hunter stocks) apart to clean them. I took out the bolt and trigger group, although I didn't take those two apart.

One rifle had a damaged scope, so I had removed the scope and scope mounts.

After re-assembly, after disposing of the dead scope, and putting away the un-needed scope mounts, I found this screw on the table.



I cannot find one like it, nor an empty screw hole, in either rifle.

am I going to die next time I fire my rifle?

Due to the apparent size and length, I would guess a scope mount base screw for the top of the receiver. Those are short to clear the bolt.

Im guessing the scope mount. Thats not a Ruger part.

Man, I hate it when that happens!
I tend to squirrel away odd stuff we find lying around, until I figure out where they go. Problem is, after about a year, I'll throw them away and then invariably, within a couple of months I'll discover where the missing part once belonged. This doesn't apply so much to firearms, but to virtually every mechanical thing I own.

The scary thing is: it's not from my scope mount, either... because those screws were black, and all accounted for.

As best as I can figure, it might have been in the spare-parts-baggie I put the old scope mounts in...

This just reminded me of a lock that I used to have. Whenever I couldn't find the lock, I'd find the key, and whenever I couldn't find the key, I'd find the lock. After probably 15 years of that I threw the lock away and never found the key again.

Agree. One of those fancy 1911 or Sig 938 types. Hex screw with scalloped edges.
