    Marlin 795 trigger guard needed

I will admit I'm not mechanically inclined, but I thought if I watch a Youtube video on how to disassemble the rifle I'd do fine. Well, the start certainly wasn't fine. I followed the instructions as far as how to remove the trigger guard. I just wish the guy in the video had mentioned to be extra careful (I thought I was actually) in removing it because the plastic isn't all that strong and can brake. He didn't and it did. Broke in two places by each screw.

Once that was removed, I had no problems with disassembling the rifle even down to the barrel. Ok, gun cleaned and trigger guard installed at the end. I need a new one tho and don't know if it is safe to shoot, so I won't. I saw one store selling the OEM part for $46 and an anodized aluminum one for $66.

Does anyone know where to get one at a better price for either. Now that I know how easy it breaks, I don't think I'd have that problem again. That said, the aluminum one sounds like the way to go because with it, there shouldn't be any concerns of it breaking under normal circumstances. I really don't want to spend the $66 tho since I have a few thousand to put into both our vehicles. So, can anyone help me with this. Thanks in advance.

Get the aluminum. That stupid trigger guard is a weak point on these guns.

      The aluminum one is GTG.

+1 on the DIProducts trigger. It is very smooth compared with the original factory one.

Installations instructions can be found at:

I upgraded to the Dip aluminum one and like it. If you want my original plastic one you are welcome to it.

After some cajoling, Marlin sent me a replacement free of charge.

Call them and see if they will replace it.

Still, it will probably break again, they're so fragile and the design is bad, not enough support in that area.

I apologize for not returning to this thread in a timely manner, but life got in the way. I want to thank everyone for their reply. I appreciate the offer by skull_leader and the info from readysetgo. I think I'll call Marlin first and try my luck there. If that doesn't work, I will take you up on your offer skull_leader. If my next plastic one breaks, then I will buy the aluminum one. I'm hoping the next time I clean the gun I'll have better luck having the knowledge about its fragile nature.

I was hoping to find a member here selling a metal one or a vendor selling one for less than the $66 for the metal guard with trigger and safety included. Unfortunately, that didn't pan out. Thanks again everyone.

There was a metal one for sale a few days ago. SPF, I believe.

Also, retired, if you go with Marlin, they'll probably only send the bare trigger guard housing. You'll need to repopulate it with your own trigger/safety parts.

So, earlier I posted I snapped my trigger guard at the dreaded rear take down screw. I called Marlin and after a bit of coaxing they sent me a replacement, which arrived in a week or two. Like others have reported, they sent the trigger guard only/empty, so I had to remove and re-install the safety and trigger parts.

Thought I'd take the chance to document it with pictures a bit.

Hadn't thought of that. skull_leader, does yours have the trigger, safety and everything else or is it just the guard like readysetgo is talking about.

I got the same problem with Marlin 60, I know that if I replace with the EOM plastic one it will break again in the future so I go with the aluminum one (DIP)

Besides the guards braking, you need to be EXTREMELY carefully with the type of cleaner used. I see a LOT of melted guards.

Thanks for everyone's help with this and especially thank you to skull_leader for sending me his original plastic one. Your offer was very generous.

Now on to the problem I'm having and hopefully someone has good fix for me. I removed trigger roll pin and spring from my broken one and transferred it to the one given to me by skull_leader. No major problems, but what a PITA getting the spring aligned with the hole so I could install the roll pin. Ok, finally in.

Now the problem: Old trigger guard. I removed the roll pin for the safety so I can transfer the safety to the replacement trigger guard. I then removed the safety detent thinking everything is going just fine. Removed the safety next. I installed the safety from the correct side, put the detent in from the top and installed the roll pin. Picked up the assembly to install into receiver/stock and the safety fell out of it's hole. Nothing seemed to be holding it in place. Read the instructions provided in the link by ARFrog.

There is mention, and I realize the instructions are for the DIP aluminum trigger guard, of a detent and detent spring. When I removed the detent from the old trigger guard after removing the roll pin, I used a needle nose pliers and lifted straight up. There was nothing but the detent, no spring. Now, I didn't know there even was supposed to be a spring until I read the install instructions for the DIY product. Does the stock one have one also and since I didn't see one (I was very slow and deliberate removing the detent) how did the safety function correctly before. The gun was used this morning by me and my two grandsons and functioned flawlessly. How so if there was no spring.

Help! What do I do now since the safety won't stay in and the gun isn't safe to use.

ETA: After looking at a schematic of the 795, the only parts listed as detent and detent spring have nothing to do with the safety and trigger guard parts. The detent/spring in the schematic are listed as parts numbers 9 & 10. Those parts have nothing to do with the safety, it's roll pin and the plunger type thing I'm referring to. I spent a good 20 minutes trying to locate a schematic of the trigger guard parts and zilch, nada. It only shows the trigger guard itself or just the safety itself, not the trigger spring, it's two roll pins or the safety roll pin, nor the part with that I'd describe as looking a little like a toilet plunger; a solid cylindrical part with a thin "pointy" part rising from it. That's the part that is kept in place by the roll pin and goes in the hole above the safety.

I'm beginning to think I would have been better to either bought the original completely assembled trigger guard or the DIP completely assembled trigger guard. Frustrating ain't the word for this.
