    10/22 Aperture Sights

I'm wondering who has experience with the Tech Sights or Skinner for the 10/22? If so why would you recommend one over the other? Are there others like these that I'm missing?

    Thanks!

The main advantage of all these sights is the longer sight radius that results from moving the rear sight from the barrel to the back of the receiver.
I've used the Tech sights, they are OK.
I have not used the Skinner.
Another option is the Williams, which are compact and tidy in appearance:

You may need taller front sight. I would go with Williams, I like Skinner on lever guns, but they lack precision. No experience with tech sights.

Best info I found on the subject.

I love the Tech Sights and have them on my Appleseed Rifle.
They are well made and very easy to use.

        Regards,
        Mike

          I have and use both.
All of my pistol caliber lever guns have skinners and I have tech sights on a 10/22 and skinners on another 10/22.

What will the 10/22 be used for? That will help with making a recommendation.

I'm setting up the 10/22 to teach my nephew how to shoot. I think starting teaching him with irons is better than optics, and the stock sights on the 10/22 suck.

Get the Tech Sites and the tools to adjust them.

The Tech Sites sit higher on the rifle which allows you to keep your head upright when sighting the rifle.

What the Skinner sights lack is click adjustments. This makes it better for set-and-forget sights, i.e., a hunting rifle. I have a similar setup using an NEF sight on my Ruger #1.

However, for a target rifle you will want click adjustments, simply because you will change them more frequently and return-to-zero is important. Tech Sights or Nodak Spud is the way to go.

I have Tech Sights on a couple 10/22's that I set up for Appleseed. They work well. No experience with Skinner.

I tried Williams WRGS series before the Tech Sights. I found them harder to adjust, and had issues with the screws loosening.

I like the Tech Sights. They are aperture sights like a M1 would have. I would characterize them as a field sight; the adjustment is course compared to a target sight.

To teach nephew to shoot the Tech Sights would work well. Have taught a few kids to shoot using 10/22 with Tech Sights, although I tend to start them on an old Mossberg 142 bolt action with aperture sights first.

I would add, if you're getting your nephew in to shooting, take him to an Appleseed. You'd be amazed what you learn there.

Oh, if you change out the sight on your 10/22, make sure you remove and install it correctly. If you push it out the wrong direction it could damage the dovetail. The Tech-Sight directions mention this

This is a good reference for Tech-Sights too; depending on the length of the barrel and distance between sights, affects how much MOA movement each "click" of the sights is.

On the Tech Sights, do not overtighten the little socket head hex screws on each side that hold the front sight base centered on the barrel mount.
                            Barely snug is tight enough!
Not only are the threads really small, but the screws seem to be made out of some sort of cheesecake-type material that either strips the threads, the head tears off or the hex hole gets rounded.

OP, in that case I would agree with the others and go with the Tech Sights.
Skinners are definitely “set and forget” and I like the ability to change the aperture size easily or remove completely for a ghost ring but that is better suited for other purposes.
