I would look for a used rifle like a Remington 513T a 37 or a Winchester 52 for Benchrest shooting.
If tuners are allowed get a Hoehn/Harrell's tuner.

however short of that, go with the CZ.
now I have to be honest, I haven't really looked at the CZs since they stopped making the 452 but I do remember on the 452s they had two action screws and some had both screws on the action where as others had the forward screw on the barrel itself.

Forget 10/22 poor iron sights and is semi. A bolt action will put a ruger to shame. Bet non of these ruger lovers ever shot 10-22 at 50 yards in a match.

I agree with LynnJr. Check Gunbroker.com and enter a search for .22 target rifle, and then select the bolt gun option. There are a few rifles in your price range, but if you add a couple hundred bucks, you can get a more accurate rifle.

bolt action and heavy barrel are inherently better for your stated purpose, accuracy off a bench

the 455 has both, the a22 neither. The a22 is only relevant if you're changing the question.

The only way to beat the 455 is spend more money or go the used route.

I used to shoot CMP Rimfire Sporter matches a few years ago and CZ's we're the bolt gun to run while the 10/22 ruled the roost.

rimfire sporter is half rapid fire where the semiauto has an advantage to offset it's disadvantage in pure accuracy .

I have a Ruger 1022 with the heavy taper barrel, only thing I've done is add the scope and upgraded hammer.

I've shot five shot groups that measured well under 1" at 50 yards, with three rounds going into on large hole, the other two about a half inch away from that.

I had a cat at the range spotting and the first two rounds made holes almost touching, the next two he though (I though so too, though they felt good from my side of the gun) were misses, then the last again less than half an inch from the 3 round hole.

Ammo was CCI Blazer, nothing special. Off a cheap bipod. I think I paid under $300.00 for the gun and scope (a Pentax 4-12x).

I also have one set up in a pistol grip stock, with the stock no front sight, threaded barrel and it shoots probably just as nice (never benched it at 50 yards, it's mostly for rimfire steel matches and has a red dot sight).

The only thing I do to these things is make the trigger better and I like pistol gripl stocks, so I put them in those stocks. They just work.

^^^ These at iron sight matches you realize. How did you do at 50 yards with the ruger iron sights? Comparing a bmw to a vw.

Sure they have, and a lightly modified 10/22 will easily compete with any rifle mentioned on this thread. But, none of the rifles on this thread will compete will a dedicated benchrest rifle.

The all-in cost of my lightly modified 10/22 is $330, not including optics, and even with the big handicap of me behiind the trigger, it shoots under 3/8" at 50 yards with 10 cent ammo.
