    What scope for Kidd 10/22?

So I went ahead and picked up a Kidd 10/22 with a 16.5in Lightweight barrel with the .5 in at 50 guarantee. It's all Kidd and I have high hopes for the accuracy potential. The rifle will be used for punching paper from 25-100 yards and killing tiny critters from 25-150 yards max.

I need help picking the right scope. I'm hoping to keep it around $200 or less. I was thinking about the Leupold VX-1 2-7x33, but now think that might not be enough magnification to kill squirrels out at 100 and make tiny little groups at 50.

Get a scope with adjustable objective for rimfire rifles. I have a Leupold VX2 3-9X33 EFR scope on my Kidd and it is excellent, but more than 200 bucks. Nikon has a version of this (Prostaff 3-9X40 EFR) for less than $200.

Do you find the 3-9 gives you enough magnification to get every bit of accuracy out of your Kidd?

3x9 is plenty of scope for a .22lr
After that it's tube diameter and glass quality for light transmission and image sharpness

Buy what you are comfortable with cash wise.
Less $, likely you will be disappointed every time you use it.
More $, you will always wonder if you spent together much.

I agree with this. You bought a top tier rifle, and I wouldn't handicap it by cheaping out on the optics. If you're shooting out to 150 (and as close as 25), then I'm guessing you got the 20 MOA rail. Assuming your rifle is capable of 3/4 MOA at 100 yards, then if it were me, I'd look at the features that I'd need to wring out that accuracy, starting with an adjustable objective. Oherwise that 3/4 MOA can easily grow to double that. I'd also get a scope with 1/8 MOA clicks and enough power to see the holes at 100 yards. Assuming a 20 MOA rail, you need at least 40 MOA of elevation adjustment (+/- 20 MOA) to barely get your crosshairs on target at 150 yards.

IF I were limited to around $200, then I'd probably choose the Mueller 8-32X44 Side Focus. Not the best glass, but seems to have a decent following and a lot scope for the money. But, if I had your rifle, I'd likely spend more on a better scope, but I think the Mueller wouldn't place you in a position where the scope is your limiting factor on accuracy.

My budget bull barrel 10/22 is MOA capable at 100 on a good day, with relatively cheap ammo. I spent 1 1/2 times the cost of the rifle on my optics, which makes me the limiting factor on my rifle's accuracy.

9x is not enough for tiny groups at 50 yards

$200 is not enough budget for serious work at that distance. But it might be worth buying a VX2 to see if that will do it? If it doesn't work out sell it and buy a better scope.

Another vote for Nikon Prostaff 7/5 or Monarch 3 series scopes with BDC reticle.
