New 10/22 casting marks.

I took my new 10/22 out last weekend and put 100 rounds down range.After the first 30 rounds it all went bad.In most magazines every other round would FTF,FTE or straight stove pipe.I brought the rifle home and took a scotch brite pad to the chamber to remove the overspray.The action is smoother except for the last 25% of travel.There are a ton of weird casting marks.I haven't had a chance to fire it since.Should I just keep firing it,will it smooth out with enough rounds?This is the model,but I don't think that matters.

I have 1968 carbine as well its action is buttery smooth.Took it out a few weeks ago and put 250 rounds through it.1 stove pipe and 2 dud rounds(40 year old ammo,just wanted to get rid of the stuff).

Where are the casting marks (bolt, receiver)? There are only a few surfaces that matter, and even those don't need to be absolutely polished.

I suspect you took a scotchbrite pad to the inside of the receiver, not the chamber.
Excess overspray can gum up the works.
Do clean the barrel and chamber, too.

Once the receiver is clean, check the guide rod for the recoil spring.
The rod should have a smooth surface.
If not, you can smooth the area where the charging handle runs with emery cloth.
Then clean and lube the guide rod and spring.

FTF, FTE, stovepipe is usually caused by the extractor slipping of the case rim.
You can reshape the original extractor for better bite on the case, or get a replacement extractor from Volquartson, Kidd, Power Custom or whoever.

Casting marks are on the receiver left and right sides where the bolt rides. Im not worried about having everything polished,just wanted the overspray off to smooth the action up alittle.

Everything minus barrel and chamber got cleaned up.I pull the barrel and set it to the side while doing the receiver.Guide rod area is fine,marks are just below it.

Any of those extractors preferred over the other?I've been looking at the voltquartson,i have a new 12 gauge Remington 870 express super mag with extractor issues as well. Voltquartson makes one for it also so ive been thinking of making 1 order for both.

You might want to think about investing in a cheap set of jeweler's files. You could tune the extractor, modify the bolt release, and profile the firing pin all in less than 1/2 hour of time.

After a 1000 rounds it'll be fine for the next 100,000 rounds. But, you violated a Ruger rule of thumb. Never buy a Ruger built after Bill Ruger died - well at least made in the last 5 years. The bean counters have taken over and they are producing some real c^@p. You can send it back and they'll fix it but it probably shouldn't have been shipped in the first place.

I'm going to agree with you.I decided to strip the 2016 and 1968 both down and compare.Rugers quality has completely went to crap.Ill load a whole bunch of pictures here in a few after I call ruger.No amount of rounds will fix it,it's going back.

What a shame too, I got my first 10/22 about two years ago and it has been flawless though it was a 50th limited version so maybe they actually took an extra 2 minutes to make it shoot right lol. Only changed the stock, scope, and added a micro groove barrel
