HAMMERLI xesse would be my first choice. a step up from my second choice, most any Buckmark.
accurate, and well made to a fine art, both of them.
You will need high end ammo to get the accuracy these guns can produce.
If you just want a plinker and cheep ammo, go with a Buckmark
there are several Buckmark .22 on the roster still. The Xesse is "Olympic pistol exempt" link for exempt list below

Sorry to threadjack but could Ruger (assuming they wanted to) make a Mark (I-II-III-IV or whatever) Olympic pistol? and then would it be roster exempt? What do the Olympic rules require of a pistol?

I appreciate anyone who can share their knowledge on this. I am going to warm up my Google-fu and see what I can find on my own as well.

No longer made but a great pistol.

S&W Victory I love mine right out of the box.
The Ruger Mark series PITA to clean but great shooters.

        Enjoy.

My preference is Buckmark FWIW. And then maybe buy a Model 60 or one of those new A22lr with the change lol.

An older High Standard would be a good choice - Victor, Supermatic Tournament, etc. Push button barrel interchange is a nice asset. For a revolver an older Smoth 17 would work fine.

$500.00 might be a bit of a challenge to find, but if "on roster" isn't an issue GB is loaded with Smiths and HS pistols.

I would suggest the new S&W Victory for ease of cleaning and maintenance.

Then probably a Buckmark or a Browning 1911-22.

After that would be the Ruger SR-22, Walther P22, and GSG-1911.
