Rimfire PRS match

I ran .22 matches for a few years, it eventually faded as people lost interest. If you think you can get enough people to come, its a blast. You can find AAR's, usually with COF's on the CAPRC forum under Monthly matches in the 2012-2014 range. http://www.caprc.com/forums/index.php I also have probably a dozen COF's I share if you want. I never had a large enough group to have different calsses/divisions, but had to make sure the stages were equal for a bolt action or semi auto shooter. Focus more on accuracy and score than time to level the playing field. For speed stages, Typically, make the strings 5 rounds before manditory reloads, and make the semi auto guys rack a round out between each shot. Don't have stages that require single feeding rounds (way faster with a bolt gun.) Also, unlike centerfire, give everyone a chance to zero before each match, .22's can be picky and it makes a usless match when half the field is so far off people stop giving a chit.
Our basic rules:
CaPRC Tactical Precision Rimfire General Rules, Guides, & Suggestions
The Hardware
1) Rifle: Any bolt action or semi auto, .22lr caliber.
2) Optics: unlimited.
3) A functional safety required on all rifles.

5) .22lr caliber only. No magnum or .17. No Hypervelocity ammo.
6) Chamber flag required. Not required to be inserted into chamber, Passed through ejection port and down through mag well is acceptable.

1) Bipod, sling, and rear bag for support.
2) 10 round magazines, enough magazines for 20 round stages.
3) Target grade match ammo.
4) Scope of at least 10x power with milling reticle.
5) At least 27 moa of scope adjustment from 50 yd zero. May require 20 moa scope base.
6) Dope from 10 to 200 yards.
Nice to have
1) Shooting mat or other ground cover.
2) Binoculars or spotting scope
3) Elbow and knee pads
4) Drinks and snacks.

G-force..personally i really like your match descriptions or "the action" but a lotta guys shooting 22s(or even center fire)may not because thats a lot to take in for new-er shooters or shooters that do not shoot PRS/tactical matches all the time.
we have a long range varmint match and ive seen a few pretty good shooters come and not do so well the first match or two because they have never shot a match let alone the pressure of being on the clock and this match is shot all prone and you have 6 minutes to engage 10 targets from 220yds to 550yds if your in the lower classes....shoot 5 rounds 30sec to 60sec break then shoot 5 more in 3 minutes.
for a lot of guys 3 minutes is enough time to get 5 rounds off and eat lunch while waiting for your next string of 5...ive seen guys only get a few rounds off through both strings.
the point is that while you or i would have no problem others will struggle not have fun and not return.
if this were me starting a new match i would keep it VERY simple for a couple of matches...100yds max..larger targets with a couple of bonus stages that dont penalize you for trying and keep most of the stages prone.
after the match or after a couple of matches ask the ppl shooting what they thought and ask them for suggestions about adding barricades, longer distances, standing kneeling sitting ECT and see what the shooters have to say...if everyone isnt having fun they wont return.
now that also applies to the more advanced guys...if they are not challenged they may not return and this is where classes comes in...you cant have one guy winning every match its not fun for the new shooters.
i guess it goes back to you cant please everyone but the more ppl that have fun the more successful the match will be.Comment

The focus of our matches were for our centerfire competetors to have a forum to learn and practice the same game with their trainer rifles. It also got people interested in our matches, but not ready to drop $5k on gear an option to "try before you buy" with the 10/22 they already owned with a $200 scope. Being more "fun and training" focused, alot of the stages featured standards like Appleseed stages, NRA Highpower positional stages, untimed dot drills, etc. Naturally, you will need to focus your match on your intended audience. The cool thing about a rimfire match, a 50 yard bay is plenty to do anything you want, just size the targets accordinly.Comment
