Henry lever.

(I have not shot the Browning lever though.)

Henry - Lower overall quality (but not bad), action less smooth, GOOD TRIGGER.

Browning - Higher overall quality (really nice), smoother action, shorter lever throw, stiff (surprisingly so) trigger.

Marlin 60 - Probably one of the best shooters out there for the price. Decently made, reliable, accurate, and love not having to purchase "extra mags". For the price and the enjoyment factor you almost have to get 2, but then your first one just keeps working and working and the second one never leaves the safe.

I'm gonna get an SA-22 some day. I've had one "in my cart" on multiple occasions but just never yet could pull the trigger.

Personally I would skip all the new shiny stuff and find an old school mom and pop LGS that sells used stuff and check the racks for an old Browning, Marlin, Sears, JC Higgins, etc. Lots of old guys don't have anyone to pass their guns to so that is where they usually wind up.

I've got a Sears 22 I got in the early '60s that is good as anything on the market today. In fact I believe it was made for Sears by Marlin. I came across an old Nylon 66 the other day; I may have to go back for a second look.

OT, since it's a pump, not a semi-auto...I bought a Remington 121 from the widow of a friend that passed on. Unbelievingly accurate and it's a very portable take-down rifle. An oldie but a goodie.

The Browning is a rifle you can hand down a generation or 2...CDNN has had them advertised for the last couple of weeks with the price "Too Low to Print". To my knowledge, they'll ship a .22 SA to California without a middleman ffl. Might be worth a call.

I wouldnt give up my western field branded mossberg tube fed bolt action. Outstanding workmanship, adjustable trigger, superb reliability. I would try to find another old mossberg.

Man, my Glen wore a K-mart branded scope. Big bold letters right across the objective housing it said K-mart.
Had the little chipmunk , squirrel , ground hog or whatever it is on the pistol grip.
You was a fancy pants running around with a woodland critter cut into the stock in my neighborhood back in the day.
Today the kids like spiders and skulls on their AR's ... not as cool, I think.

Check out the Marlin Mountee. It has a nice heavy barrel and smooth action. Get a nice used one. They are amazing. My second choice, but I don't have one would be the Henry Goldenboy. Third, Marlin Model 60. I have put over 20,000 rounds down it. My squirrel stock broke and I had to replace it. It still shoots great. My kids love it too.
