HK MP5 SD 22lr

I plan to get the MP5 .22LR as well, just having a hard time deciding which version to get, the A5 or SD...
Anyone seeing one in any local (I'm in the Bay area) gun stores? It'd be ideal if I can handle one in person to help me decide which one to get.
Also, if anyone knows a good deal on either one, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it.

SD all the way for me. It's a super fun .22. It's also not picky about ammo.
One warning though, more mags = more fun.

It's not unusual for me to go through at least 500 or more rds every time I take the SD to the range.

Get the A5 if you plan to get a different handguard in the future. There is less flexibility in the SD variant. Both are not picky with ammo. At this point I have well north of 10000 rounds through it. This is the only .22lr firearm I own and I will most likely not buy another since I was looking for a fun, reliable, semi-auto plinker that isn't finicky with ammo - this definitely fits the bill.

Of course this can change as I shoot them more. Both were very reliable and fun to shoot, no doubt, which are the more important attributes.

Finally picked mine up as well.. I haven't shot my A5 as of yet
but I plan on getting a few things (sling, mags, mag pouches) for it before I head to a local range.

I know alot of owners do not like the fake suppresor, but I don't have a problem with it.

Hi, trigger945, does one feel more compact than the other? I know they show the same length/weight in the spec, but I wonder if one of the two feels more compact in actual handling. Also, from the pictures I saw, A5 and SD have different fake suppressors, is that true? Are those fake cans the same dimension? Do you think the A5 fake can can fit onto the SD?

Congrats on having both to play. Sadly, I don't have that much budget. I hope your insights can help me nail down the one to get. Thanks a lot.

Outside of shooting them last night for 100 rds each, I did not do anything else, so I am not sure if the fake cans are interchangeable. They are different with the SD's being wider in diameter than the A5's. But to answer one of your questions, the A5 felt (and is) more slender than the SD. So if that means more compact, then I guess that is your answer? To me, the A5 was a little easier to hold.

Between the two, and based solely on last night's experience, I like the A5 a little bit more. Just a little. Interesting because I wanted the SD more than the A5 when I was looking around. I just happened to stumble upon both and fortunately got to get both.

I honestly cannot feel that much of a difference ( other than it IS about 10% smaller overall in scale of a real MP5) when holding the Walther .22 MP5 as compared to my old patrol H&K MP5A2.. I'm very impressed with the Walther's ergos, and the weight really is very close.
The Navy Grip does feel slightly shorter than the 9mm version, and the charging handle has the 1.5" play before engagement of the bolt, but everything else feels familiar.
