    S&W model 617

I was minding my own business today and wandering about town with some free time on my hands, when on a lark I decided to drop into a local gun shop to see if they had any decent sales going on. There was a S&W 617 in the consignment case that caught my interest, and I had always wanted one so.......

The price was a bit high I thought, so I asked if there was any wiggle room. There was, so I made an offer. The sales clerk consulted the manager, the manager called the consignee, and in short order I was doing the paperwork.

It is a dash-8 so newer, and it has a 4" barrel. I'm pretty happy right now, and can't wait until it is released into my hands:

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

I sure like mine, have had it about 4-5 years. I bought a loading block and a couple speed loaders from DS-10 and it makes loading a snap.

I have the same gun that I bought used. Love it, and the real benefit of the gun is that it will eat any .22LR brand. Revolvers usually aren't picky.

I've had mine for 25 plus years now........probably the best double action .22 ever made. Mine is a six shot and got red dot settin' on top of it.

These are excellent revolvers, I had one for several years. The only thing that bothered me (but does not bother most shooters) was the weight. At 40 oz, it was a real chunk. I ended up selling it and getting a Ruger SP101 8-shot which is 10 oz less. The right weight for me but the Smith felt a lot better in my hands. I should have kept it and bought the Ruger to add to it.

Good point Dan, I've decided to add the S&W 63 for when I want a smaller lighter .22 wheel gun.

Congrats! May you be endlessly happy with it. A sincere wish.

As much as I like revolvers, five rimfires revolvers have come and gone - a High Standard, a Colt and 3 Smiths, one of which was a No Dash 617. I really tried to like them but rimfire revolvers and I do not enjoy each other's company for one reason or another.

That one is on my "to buy" list. It will keep my new 10 shot GP-100 .22 company. I love 10 shot .22 revolvers.

I also have high end rimfire revolvers - S&W 617 and K22 masterpiece from the 50s. I'm contemplating selling them also.

Believe it or not, I like my cheapo Roughrider the best.

Sweet pickup OP. Should definitely be reliable with most any 22lr ammo

                              $650.

I didn't steal it, but I think it was a fair price.
