The Venerable Nylon 66

I've had one for 30 plus years, nice light little shooter. Accurate enough so it's fun to shoot but mine has never been the most reliable.
Strange thing is the price one in good condition will go for, mine is worth about twice it was when brand new??

Rember long rife was about a penny a round 60 years ago . One of my friends had one probably the first repeater I shot I had a model 67 winchester.

I've never owned or even handled one, but I'd recognize that white diamond design anywhere. Awesome that they still have such a following.

I had 2. Sold this black one. Never a reliability issue but I once bumped the stock on the ground at the range and the black one fired a round....

The brown one I still have. Clip fed. No clip......rusty. Sits in my daughters room.

Bob, your old black one looks like mine. The "Black Diamond" version. The least produced, but not worth as much because they are 'plain jane' looking. Got mine in the late 70's and it's still in pretty much perfect condition. Never had any problems with it.

When I purchased it, I had to make a decision to get either the Remington or a 10/22. At the time, both were about the same price. I guess I liked the nylon rifle better because it was exotic at the time.

Not getting rid of it. Too much fun. Oh, I did eventually get a 10/22. Got a takedown model the other year on a Black Friday special.

Looks like Oceanbob has a nice project gun. I always remember having to curl up my toes and sitting the barrel on the tip of my boots to keep the barrel out of the dirt while a dumped box after box thru mine. Always worried I'd accidently blow a hole thru my foot. Fun chasin wabbits with these.

I picked up one for dirt, that the seller thought was a basket case, a few years back. Needed a charge handle and a mag...and of course had never been cleaned. Runs good, very light handling, put a period .22 scope on it.

I got it when I had a run on Glenfield .22s. PAX

I have the knock off black diamond version its a good gun must have 10k rounds through it . I had a friend help me clean it ONCE ..lol the things a little tricky to take apart .Was also my first Rifle .

My landlord had the black one with the white diamond on the stock.

I fired it a few times.

I saw a photograph of a black one with no diamond and a brown one with a diamond.

I never did pick up one of the Brazilian clones. Some people say they were made on worn out equipment bit you seem to have gotten a good one. Passed one up for $100 a couple of timea maybe next time I won't.

I have only seen 3 green 66's in person. I had a line on one recently but seller knew what they had.

I still have mine in Mohawk brown. It was my first rifle and shoots great. My dad bought it when he was 18 for somewhere around $80 at a hardware store

I started shooting with a Ruger 10-22 bought used, but mint and it included three of the super-rare extra magazines (very rare at the time)---I was very happy with it until my brother borrowed it and it was stolen from his house---damn! I then found a replacement Deluxe Sporter (Pre-ban) 10-22 which I still have…
Then I became the owner of a near mint, bottoming ejecting Browning 22 Auto (made in Belgium) with the "Wheelsight"---with these two 22s I was quite happy and still have it as well…
Then, one day, a gent from my shooting club, offered to trade me a somewhat worn Nylon 66 for an old beat-up pocketknife---this little rifle must have been shot a million rounds with very little cleaning… it proved a very tricky beast to take apart for cleaning, but I have a series of books (pre computer days!) written by JB Wood and suffered thru the process (I'll never do that again!) of cleaning the little rifle. I kept the Nylon 66 because I was in the gun business (managing retail stores) and needed a "beater" to teach folks to shoot which the Nylon 66 did without failure plus it was very accurate. Many years (and MANY rounds later), I was asked by a real close friend to sell him the rifle as he was moving to Texas and his wife (who was injured in a car crash) told him that the Nylon 66 was the only rifle she could hold up and fire---so I sold it to him thinking I could just pick-up another in the future if I wanted one… Well, many years passed, and I had a hankering for a Nylon 66 again as I was really getting into shooting 22s again, but there were few to be found and the prices were very high! Finally, again at my shooting club, another fellow pulled out a near-mint Nylon 66 in Mohawk Brown (just like the first one) and offered it to me for a very fair $150---it looked like it had been sitting in it's case for decades with very little shooting---I still have it…!
