    Ruger Pistols - .22LR

    Hi Everyone!

Since we can't find/buy Ruger 22LR pistols in CA anymore, can I buy from someone in another state had have it shipped here. Or buy it online. I know, probably not on the CA list... (Mark II, Mark III, etc)

    Thanks!

Nup you canNOT do it, there are only two ways to get non roster Ruger pistol in CA are :
    - PPT from someone in CA.
    - Interfamily transfer from out side CA.

Buy from on-line store outside CA or from somebody outside of CA won't work. You have to return the pistol to the seller and pay the re-stocking fee.

        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Well it may be true the only legal way to do it in jerry brown's eye's. But that most definitely is not the "only way to do it".

What about C&R eligible Mark Is and Mark IIs? Aren't those treated like any other C&R handgun, which means you can ship one in fro out of state?

Yes,but they have to be 50+ years old. S&W and Colt have pretty good
serial number references by years to document a gun before 1966 etc.
I'm not sure what kind of database Ruger has for its 22 pistols. Also, some
FFLs may not be keen with approximate dates and bringing in from
                outside CA.

There are some great Olympic exception pistols you can ship in...S&W model 41, Hammerli, Browning medalist...to name a few. These will outshoot most Rugers by far.

What newbie1234 posted complies with Federal and CA laws.

For the last 48 years, Federal laws have prohibited the transfer of firearms between residents of different States unless the transfer is done through a FFL and complies with the State laws of both the transferor & transferee. Failure to utilize a FFL equates to a Federal felony for everyone involved with the transfer.

CA FFL dealer can not legally transfer a handgun that is not listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale unless an exemption is used (C&R, LEO sale, out-of-state intra-familial gift, OTP, PPT, SAE, SSE2).

Therefore, the only legal way a CA FFL dealer can transfer an off-Roster Ruger pistol is via:
                        A. C&R, the firearm is 50+ years old.
                        B. LEO sale, the buyer is a LEO.
                        C. out-of-state intra-familial gift, the firearm is a gift from an "immediate family member".
                        D. OTP, the firearm is make/model listed as an exempt Olympic Target Pistol.
                        E. PPT, the firearm is already in CA and being transferred between CA residents.
                        F. SAE, the firearm is a dimensionally compliant single-action revolver.
                        G. SSE2, the firearm is a dimensionally compliant bolt-action/break-top single-shot pistol that has never been semi-auto.

This is great info. And I might have to look into more Olympic pistols. I wanted the TOZ-35M for awhile since I have a love affair with Tula, but it is a bit more pricey and they are difficult to find.
