      It's a rifle.
As long as it's not in automatic configuration, AW laws do not apply.

      NFA laws do apply.

Well, get one of these for an existing lower: http://www.shopalexanderarms.com/17_HMR_Uppers.html

          Or a complete rifle: http://www.shopalexanderarms.com/17_HMR-Rifles.html

I bought an upper for hunting ground squirrels, Using CCI lead free ammo, the thing is very accurate, once installed and adjusted (the lower needs to have the magazine adapter, and bolt release installed.) The ten round magazines are inexpensive: http://www.shopalexanderarms.com/Mag...agazine_2.html

Also be sure to purchase a cleaning rod guide: http://www.shopalexanderarms.com/Cle...d_Guide_1.html

These aren't cheap, but then what is these days?

I would look at the Franklin Armory F17 series of AR15s in 17WSM. Winchester's new 15 grain lead free offering is going 3300fps and does well in the field on varmints.

The Winchester 20 grain goes 3000fps and you can find boxes of #50 for around $12.00 a box online, but it is also available in local shops as well. (for plinking)

              Next year, assault air rifles.
