Anyone have experience with Llama XV Especials?

Buddy of mine is trying to track down some spare mags for his Llama XV Especial .22lr semi-auto.

I don't know much about them other than what I was able to get out of google and Wikipedia but it looks like the mags are pretty hard to come by. Anyone have a good source for European rimfire mags? Thanks in advance for any information you can lend!

I own a Llama XV .22LR auto. Got mine in 1975. Finding parts for it is very difficult. Found the recoil spring on Gun Broker several years ago, but other than that nothing. It is a shame because it is a pretty good pistol.

I'd stay away from aftermarket mags. Factory mags are available on eBay but are $$$. Also compare pics carefully to what you have as Llama made a lot of variations over the years.

I wouldn't and I didn't. The Triple K's work great in my Llama.

I get mine from ebay, like previously mentioned originals run $$$. I have also purchased aftermarket on ebay for $30 and ran horribly, I don't think the ones I got were triple k though?

You are the exception and not the rule then. Many people have problems with Triple K. I mainly use them only when there is not an easily available factory alternative since they make mags for many very obscure guns. I have used Promags and Triple K before but some were total trash.

Heard all the bad things about ProMag too.

I have several of their magazines too with no problems.

I've heard all the bad things about Taurus firearms.

I own more Taurus made firearms than any other brand; yup you guessed it - no problems.

I also own Taurus firearms and trust my life to one sometimes. If you read my prior posts I am by no means a gun or ammo snob. But you are much more likely to have a problem with Triple K or Promag products than with a factory magazine. I am by no means just parroting what people with little to no experience say on the internet.

This is from a lifetime of owning and firing weapons and running a shooting range at one period of my life. I own around 350 firearms and have owned many more so the issue of Triple K and Promags has come up before with various results. I have personally witnessed and experienced the failures. I have also had satisfactory results as well. That is good that your Llama 22 worked with them as these guns are very finicky and the factory mags are very hard to track down.

I only wish Triple K made even more mags and stepped up the QC a bit there is mags that cost $300-400+. Even buying a $100 magazine sucks.

I've seen your post and admire your collection.

I've only been shooting for 31 years and have only owned about 120 guns, currently down to about 30. I spent several years in the "outdoor" sporting goods industry at all levels; retail, wholesale, import and manufacturing.

And, the one thing I can tell you for sure is that the negative of anything travels fast and further than the positive of anything. Both brands mentioned have been around for years and both have a lot of negative being told about them. Truth is that they both make a good product you just don't hear about the good.

It's all part of how our society is going. Just turn on a "news" broadcast of your choice and count the bad things you hear and the good things you hear. The bad will always out weigh the good by a landslide.

Or, you can just look at your own post. You have both good and bad experiences with them but yet you are quicker to condemn the product than to praise the product.

It is true that it is human nature to report the bad and not praise the good. But it can't be denied that all these reports of problems can't be just made up. Really let's say if you were carrying a 1911 to defend you life would you use Promags over a higher quality product?

I mainly see Promag niche as being for range use and practice. Triple K mainly for obscure guns where factory mags are extremely expensive or unavailable. I mentioned my background because I'm sure like me you tire of CGN mall ninjas and gun snobs just repeating what they read about with little to no real world experience on what they post about. A funny side note is I've actually been to the Promag factory.
