Quality 22LR Bolt Action rifle

I'm looking for a quality 22 LR bolt action rifle. A friend owns a Kimber (not sure of the model number) that seems like a well made gun... Any suggestions? I'm going to be using it for target shooting, plinking.

How much do you want to spend?

You get a good bang for the buck with a CZ-USA, Model 452 if you can find one or a Model 455. I prefer the "American" edition. The Browning T-Bolt is really nice, but several bills more than the CZ.

savage with accu trigger will outshoot that kimber. TRR model is a great one

The Ruger American is a sweet little rifle for about $360 out the door..adjustable trigger, decent sights, and you can adjust the LOP. The marlin xt-22 is another great choice

If your friends rifle happens to be a Limber of Oregon then he has a fine quality rifle. They are no longer in business and are climbing in value. I'd say get either a CZ or Savage.

Cooper, Kimber and Anschutz are hard to beat on the top end.

I am an RSO for the Boy Scouts. Scouts are only able to shoot bolt action (or single shot) 22s so we have used a bunch. The Ruger American is reliable. Every Anschutz we have used has been hyper-accurate an reliable. People often say "the gun is more accurate than I am." When Scouts universally-- new shooters all -- perform FAR better with one type of rifle than others, that logic can't apply. The Anschutz is our go to gun.

If you go to Camp Perry or any other smallbore competition, including the Olympics, and you will find Anschutz rifles are the most common rifles used in competition. You can get that same action in a sporter grade rifle, and have almost the same accuracy. I bought my Anschutz Sporter in 1978 for $200.00. I can sell that rifle today for an easy $1,500.00. Anschutz rifles increase in value.

Unless you are set on something new and shiny, head to a mom and pop old time LGS that sells consignment and check the racks for older bolt actions from any major manufacturer like Marlin, Winchester, etc. Don't rule out Sears, Wards, etc who were all made by big name builders.

Hard to match the fit and finish of a old fashioned bolt action compared to even the finest guns today. Plus you will probably save at least $500 that could go towards a nice scope and a few buckets of ammo.
