Marlin 60 795 recoil spring installation problem solved with this video!

    From rimfire central:

Almost every month we see this posted on RFC……….

    --------------------------------------------

    Hello, calguns-

Thought that I'd pass the below one minute video forward.

To make a long story short, I kinked my as new recoil spring in spite of watching numerous videos for takedown/reassembly and reading the Marlin 60 manual. This is apparently a very common occurrence and let's face it- a PITA when it happens (usually first reassembly, as it was for me) and even if it doesn't happen I don't think most people look forward to this part of the takedown process.

This video's solution is entirely different from method in the manual and other videos. Recommend that you carefully listen to it and watch closely a few times.

This is the best video I found though it was a bit late for me, but never too late. I was able to re-install my spring (mine was only slightly kinked) easily due to this video. Ordered two replacements in the meantime from Numrich on Amazon before I came across this video. Using hindsight and the benefit of this video, I would've ordered only one replacement spring.

Never really had an issue with it, but the video shows exactly how I do it so that's probably why... That being said I have an extra recoil spring for each 795 I have lol.

Well, you're probably the only one in the United States who hasn't kinked that recoil spring. Oh, I under-estimate, probably the only one in the WORLD who hasn't kinked it...

LOL I'm just very careful. But like I said I have extras for the day that it does happen. The video you posted (and pretty much everything arrowdogger puts out) is a great resource.

I'm cautious too, and I viewed more than a few disassembly/reassembly videos, and read the manual, and I still messed it up until I came upon arrowdodgers video, which I would've found in my YT Search if it had had a different title.

As I stated before in this thread, his method substantially differs from the manual and the other videos.

I even contacted Marlin about this issue. They were very nice about it and I sent them the link to the video as it interested them and... (PM me if you want to know further on it).

No, there are at least TWO people in the world who haven't kinked the recoil spring in their Marlin 60/795...

I've messed up a recoil spring before on my 795 and that was because I was being impatient guiding it in place. Lesson learned and a few dollars sent to MidwayUSA, I'm really patient when putting it back together.

Thanks for sharing. Although I have not kinked one yet, but upon seeing its construction, I am certain it will be a matter of time before I do.

That arrowdodger dude is pretty good.

Yeah, I think the video is really good and it's the only one that really worked for me.

I removed the kinked spring from mine (barely noticeable kink- I do not lie) and replaced with a new one. I had ordered additional springs before I had watched the video, darn. Would've ordered just one instead of two. Actually, the kinked spring would've worked okay from what I've read. The 'failure' photo that I posted was lifted from a thread on rimfire central- it wasn't my spring.

                    Cheers,

Thanks to the video, I was able to install a new spring in no time, one to two minutes, if that much.
