Henry AR7. Anyone have one?

I am considering getting one. Just curious as to if the accuracy is as good as a 1022. Also, I have heard of them having cycling issues holding the mag. Is that true?

Assuming you mean "Henry", I have one. It was purely a spontaneous impulse buy and has a very narrow usage. It ain't for taking to the range.

And no, accuracy past 25-30 yards is lacking. 50 tops.

I've had a couple and have gotten rid of both of them. The ONLY thing they have going for them is that they float which sucks when you need to have a boating accident.

I have one. Doesn't feed well. It was dirt cheap. A novelty gun. But still cool.

For a similar type of rig, I've heard the marlin papoose is much better.

The AR-7 is from the AR-5 family which was originally designed by Stoner as a B-52 bomber crew survival weapon, also used by the IDF as a survival rifle.

Yep, well aware of that. I was just interested in if it was a serviceable .22, and not just a novelty.

I have one & have had it for a few years now... and to be honest it is the only gun in my safe that I haven't shot.

the guy that I bought it from actually backpacked/hunted with it & he now uses a 10/22 takedown.

it is absolutely a novelty gun to me & one day I will shoot it (or sell it) but for right now it is just too much of a hassle to get it out of the safe - just the receiver is in there & is wedged between 2 pistol racks.

Seriously people, knock the FUD spreading **** off.

If it's a Henry made AR-7 - it functions just fine.

Keep your hand off the magazine when shooting.

Use High Velocity 1235 - 1300 FPS Copper Plated Lead Round Nose or Copper Plated Lead Hollow Point.

Ok accuracy at 50 yards or less...

I agree 100% with the above; I have one of the 1st generation Henry's and no issues to report. Yes, keep your hand off the magazine when shooting and try to stick with high velocity ammo. Even though I've had luck with Federal bulk pack.

Is this for a survival rifle or sheets and giggles use at the range?

I have never had a good one that ran right.
To me they are different looking ie, good thing and yet offer little to a 22lr plinker at the range. I wouldn't trust one to put meat on the table for "survival" either.
Nobody needs a finicky eater. Specially a 22 semi-auto.

Some have posted good results here and God bless them for being lucky or magical.

If you want a 22lr survival rifle then I'd get a Crickett .22 or something similar.
Hollow stock can hold lots of gear inside with a little tinkering.

Neither one is as good as a 10/22 IMO but you make the call.

I wonder if the heavier barrels available in the aftermarket would make a difference, or is there an inherent flaw other than that.

Don't have one, but a fellow at the range was kind enough to let me try one out, it belonged to his grandpa or something, so definitely an older model. I was very underwhelmed, bulbous stock, crappy sights, and I the owner mentioned it was a pain to actually clean. Probably better of with a 10/22 takedown, or one with a folding stock
