Good Scope and mount and see what you can do. Then a Volquartson or some other drop in trigger. If you are going to try to get a competition target class giun then whip out the wallet and shop till you run out of money. No matter if bone stock or a $3000.00 custom the 10/22 is lots of fun.
California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.

Anyone had any experience with the budget barrels, i.e. Green Mountain, EABCO, KSA etc? Like under $150. Shoot, the Ruger target barrel is around 90 bones itself...

        Why?

I'd send the trigger to Randy at CPC, put a different barrel on it, I have Feddersen and GM 16 in barrels. All three will shoot a one hole group at 50 yards with CCI SV ammo shooting prone with a bipod and bag. 2 MOA targets are too easy for my nephews under 50, and 3moa at 100 yards prone or off the bench, so I've got them shooting further unless it is positional.
